Gymnastics progressions

Hi,

Does anyone understand gymnastics and how children get to progress.
DD 6 goes to a recreational class at the local leisure centre whereby there is a beginners class and then an intermediate class and then advanced class.
She''s been going for two terms now and can do the basic stuff ie rolls, handstand, handstand bridge, bridge and kick over and handstand bridge kickover, cartwheel on floor and low beam.
She has cousins (don't live local so different gymnastics clubs) who are older 10 and 12 and currently do competivie gymnastics and DD admires them and says she would like to try and win medals when she is older.
We don''t get any awards so does anyone know what you need to be able to do to move up from beginner to intermediate and so on.
None of the parents seem to know how you progress and there are a couple of girls who have been going around a year and a still in the beginners class who have good technique compared to DD.
Thanks

You need to ask the club.
At our club we range from pre schoolers to Olympic, the range can be vast. Only your club will be able to tell you what constitutes intermediate there. At our club intermediate is quite a high level involving 12 hours training per week.

The two girls that have been going ages were told they would be told when they are ready to move up. So after only two terms I'm not going to get told anything different!
It's a gymnastics class at a local leisure centre so not one where they have teams/squad.

Just seen the part about at your club intermediate do 12 hours training.
The intermediate class is still one hour and advanced is only 1.5 hours.

You need to move her to a proper gymnastics club. She is probably still young enough to make the move into competitive is you go now. Like PP said, you need to be prepared for a LOT of training if she is put in a competitive stream.
