Is 11 too late to be considered for competitive trampolining?

DD is nearly 11 and has been doing gymnastics for a year. She absolutely loves it and is pretty good considering the short time she's been going. She's small for her age and very agile and flexible. I'm kicking myself she didn't start at 4 or 5 as I do believe she has some natural talent. Realistically though, she's too old to be considered for the squads, although I daren't tell her as she believes she could be the next Beth Tweddle Grin

I'm wondering if she may fare better at trampolining as I'm sure I heard it's not vital to start so young at that. There's an after school club at the high school she's going to in September which she's keen to join with the aim of it helping her gymnastics and I've discovered there's a very good club just down the road. I've suggested I try to enrol her there but she still seems hell bent on "making it" in gymnastics so wasn't too keen. DD is dyslexic and really struggles academically. I think it would be great for her self esteem if she could excel at something. She's good at sport but, so far, not quite good enough. For example, she was gutted not to get into the A team at netball. Could she stand a chance at trampolining if she starts soon?

She seems to be putting herself under a lot of pressure doesn't she - after-school clubs are not just for those bound for the Olympics, they are supposed to be for fun and fitness as well!

Can she get into a frame of mind that she'll go along and see if she enjoys it as a hobby, maybe make some new friends?

Yes, I think I'll see how she gets on with the after school club and then she may decide for herself if she wants to take it further. I've a feeling the coaches who run the school club come from the local club I mentioned so they may even suggest it to her if they feel she's got potential.
