Extra-curricular activities for a three year old?

I was looking for some ideas for extra-curricular activities for a 3 year old.

Up until this point we have never done any toddler groups or activities but my 3 year old has recently started pre-school and is loving it. He is a bright, confident and active boy who, I've now come to realise, thrives in structured activities.

What activities do/did your children do at this age? Just looking for a range of interesting ideas really.

We go to this really great music class led by a musician rather that someone with a CD player!
The girl plays all these wonderful instruments, flute, recorder and they even have a real piano.
My little girl absolutely loves it. It's called Little Notes. (Www.littlenotes.co.uk) They're are quite new up here but on the website looks like they have a few around the country so maybe one near you too!

DD does gymnastics with lots of boys, and ballet. I've looked into Rugby Tots which looks fun and I've heard of toddler football too. We tried toddler sessions at a local rock climbing facility but DD wasn't interested. There's loads of stuff out there.

We've done a few things; music, football and currently rugby.

It's not exactly rugby as you'd recognise it but it's been a fantastic way of teaching DS his colours, learning to share etc. Most importantly it's an activity DH and DS can do together.

However some of the sports groups do have parents that take it all a bit too seriously (the football one) so watch out for that.

If DS decides he can't be bothered to go any more, there's a dance class I might switch him to.

The one thing he can't switch though is swimming. That's more of a safety thing though.

It's all dependant on where you live I would imagine. There is not a massive amount here for three year olds. More when they get to five.

Mine used to flake out in the buggy after preschool, so no extra curricular activities here!

We go to a really good craft group, gymnastics, swimming and tennis with ds who is 3. Gym tots is the biggest hit. All the sports are council run so not too expensive. Would have loved to do something musical but I can't even get him into rhyme time at the library so think it would be a dead loss!

We did the normal dance etc with the DDS, DS did little ruggers & now plays in his Minis team & loves it, rugby is his life lol

Swimming is brilliant!

I have a 2.5 yrs old and I am hoping she could start some ballet/dancing soon(if we could arrange childcare, pick/drop). Gym tots would be fun, will research for it. We love swimming and she could swim alittle. I am looking for a craft centre where she can make mess(outside of the house). That is it for us now until primary I guess. She is so much more socialised than her elder sister who used to have refluxed badly and still easily being sick at this age

My three yr old son does gymnastics which has been great for his physical skills and confidence, he doesn't have his sisters daredevil tendencies! He also goes to Rubytots which he loves.

DD did swimming, rugbytots and ballet while I was on mat leave; we have dropped rugbytots now we only have weekends as I'm back at work but she loved it

Dd1 just did swimming at that age. Dd2 has just started swimming and ballet at age 3.

MrsWombat · 13/11/2016 07:31

My now 8 year old did gymnastics at aged 3. Was really good for him.

Bryt · 13/11/2016 07:48

Swimming, gymnastics and a proper music group ( led by a musician) were the best things my dd's did at 3. Not all at the same time.

Blowninonabreeze · 13/11/2016 10:06

Mine does forest school, gymnastics, swimming, and a craft class (over the course of a week)
