I'm Exhaaaaaauuusted...

Oh no you aren't...

Oh yes, I am...

Just wondering if anyone else has given up Christmas to watch their DC appear with ex -Emmerdale stars and old x-factor types... two DDs doing their first season in panto this year and it's a bloody whirlwind.

yes the height match thing is the same here. It is a hard lesson I agree but it is what the industry is like. having the right hair colour, being the right height, looking old enough or young enough etc

DD2 hasn't fallen foul of it in panto terms (yet) but she has been foiled by being little when going for a role in a touring production. Which was a bit annoying because the kids they had already cast in other cities were actually bigger than the role was supposed to be. But having cast them first, the size criteria was set because they only wanted one costume. Financially it made sense - artistically, not so much.

our panto run finishes tomorrow. tears have already started. DD1 has loved it all. next week is going to be very miserable for her I think.

Finished on NYE. Hurrah.

DS doesn't stop till 17th. He is going to feel very blue...

Good luck to you all for the end of panto. DD did it twice - at age 8 and age 10 - and we found that the worst part was the slog through to Easter once all the excitement was over and the tiredness really caught up with her (dance competitions in February half term, so no rest then).

Didn't audition this year -will confess to a small cheer!

Thanks teacher. I can't decide if I would be relieved or sad if he didn't audition next year. Academic really as I know he will want to. But the stakes get higher every year as there are no guarantees of getting in just because you've done it before, but it's a huge blow if they audition and don't get picked having already had the lovely experience. I guess the whole process builds up resilience, which is what we're always being told modern kids don't have...

Yesterday was DD2's last performance - in fact she did both shows because someone was injured in one of the other teams. Today all the ones not in the relevant team for the very last show go to watch and then they have a party (which won't end late as several of the professional cast have new jobs starting tomorrow). DD2 is very down but she will be going immediately into rehearsals for the dance festival, so no let up on Sundays at all - still dancing every day of the week except Saturday. The next drama school show will be auditioning in a few weeks too. It's just one huge treadmill really. However the focus will have to be less on her in the coming months because DD1 and DS have A levels and GCSEs coming up.

well we have had tears from both daughters tonight but I think both are finally asleep. One crying because her panto experience was over (might be too tall next year), the little sister crying because she has loved seeing the stars when she has come to do drop offs and pick ups. oh well, my job this week is to try and put together a photo collage frame for her to put up in her bedroom.
