What the usual notice for peripatetic music lessons?

Dd wants to switch back to her old music teacher but is doing lessons through school at the moment. I can't find the paperwork with the notice period but have a horrid feeling it might be a term, in which case we'd have to pay for Autumn term too. So far we've just paid for this term. Any ideas? And yes, I'll try and find out myself but obviously its a bit awkward..

Just call the LEA music service, or check their website.

Standard is one term's notice, yes.

Ours was always a term, but it had really weird deadlines that didn't fit in with actual term dates. Ring the music service or check the website.

I have just looked in the back of his practice homework book and ours is four weeks. I would have sworn that it was six weeks.

It might be "hand in notice by half term or pay for the following term". Usually, even though I require a term's notice for lessons in-school, we give some lee-way like that. But please do honour the notice period, whatever it is - as a peri, I get paid directly by the students and per lesson, not a regular wage from a school or music centre. The notice period allows us to either find another student for that place or make adjustments to our budget to take into account the drop in income! And yes, some of my colleagues have been known to go to petty claims about it, because refusal to pay notice seems to be endemic round here.

For us, in school it's a term's notice (which I take to mean before half term, because I'm nice); my own contract for private students currently says a half term, and I can usually fill from the waiting list.

I would say to hand in notice, as soon as possible, but definitely before half term to say that your dd will not be continuing lessons at school from the end of the Summer term.
At dds school, renewal forms are sent out to parents by the Music Department at the end of May/early June about booking lessons for the following school year so fees wouldn't automatically be carried across into a new academic year.

Thanks all. I can't find anything about the notice period but I'm going to hand in notice anyway and see what happens. With any luck I won't have to pay any more than this term. Giving notice in early May for lessons in September doesnt seem unreasonable to me!

Our LA was half a term notice but private lessons a whole term.

Usually it's half a term, but you might be able to get away with less notice if there is a waiting list for lessons. I suggest you contact the school asap.
