Religion in a non-religious school

Hi. My dd attends a non-religious school.
They are making it compulsory for all pupils to attend a carol service, in the local church, during school time.......can they do this?

Well like any trip they can't really make it compulsory but if the whole school is going then it does create issues if just one or two don't go.

But what's the problem with a carol concert? Many non Christians love going to church over chiristmas for carol concerts and things.

There's no such thing as a non-religious school. Even schools that aren't faith schools are required by law to have a collective act of worship that is wholly or mainly of a broadly Christian nature. I guess the carol service is part of that. Have you spoken to the school about your concerns?

Have you withdrawn her from all collective worship?

Don't see why you are objecting to this - unless you belong to a religion which does not celebrate Christmas?

Presumably you have to sign a permission slip for the trip so you can decline to give your permission or you can withdraw her from collective worship.

Why don't you want her to go? Just being nosey.
