Jersey Games School Trip

Has anyone's child been on one of these.

It is incredibly expensive but ds rarely asks to do anything like this.

We have spent lots of money on ballet summer schools for driver the years so I want to give ds the same opportunities but money is tight & with dds courses we knew they were being coached by some ofvthe countries leading teachers/performers. I don't know who the coaches are for this.

Also it seems to be just two mornings of coaching plus a tournament, the rest of the time is trips etc

Does this offer something special or is it something we could get in England/Wales for cheaper?

Is it to coincide with the 2015 Island Games?

Captainweasel · 19/10/2014 10:47

If it to coincide with the island games it'll be amazing. Last time they were held in jersey the atmosphere was incredible visitin teams had the experience of not only competing but of our beautiful island an what it has to offer.

I don't think it is. It's an annual sports trip tournament thing for schools.

If you spend a fortune on courses for your daughters sometimes even though it doesn't seem worth the money you have to make it fair in the eyes of another child.

From experience I wouldn't question it in front of DS but just pay up. I'd make him feel that you are equally committed to his choices.

Well dds most expensive summer school was £450. This one is £100 more. Plus dds trip was completely educational, a full week of advanced level ballet training whereas this is a couple of mornings of sports coaching, a tournament & the rest of the time visiting water parks, discos etc

I wish it was an option to "just pay without question" but the reality is we have to save up & go without things to pay for expensive trips like this.

OK you've not spent a fortune on your daughter this summer so maybe you don't need to 'balance' things at this stage.

Ours are older and the summer courses have added up over the past four or so years making one of them extremely good at their 'thing'.The others are proud of their sibling and rarely ask for trips or treats. With hindsight I wish I'd suggested the others had done more in the way of school trips even though we didn't have the money tucked by. We managed to find funds for the worthy advanced stuff but sometimes we should have changed our rationale and maybe gone with the whimsy a bit more.

The trip ds wants to go on also co- incides with the first week ofvthe Easter holidays. We always usually go on holiday as a family this week as getting time off in the summer can be tricky.

Why not have your family holiday and find him a course for the summer?
County cricket organisations run week long courses or Kings Camps do multisports around the country or what about PGL which can be a week away for less than that?

Picturesinthefirelight · 23/10/2014 20:18

Kings Camp actually run at his school.

Ds is convinced all his classmates will be going on this trip (some went last year when they were in year 5 but it's offered to the year 6s first.

School were going to only run it every two years but parents asked if it could run this year.

Ask school how many they can take then work out if DS is going to be in a small minority if he doesn't go?

Will he still be with these friends in year7 or will they all have gone on to different schools? In which case I might say family holiday this time and there will be better trips at senior school and you can go on one of those. But if he is going up to senior school with these friends then maybe the bonds that will be forged are worth digging deep?
