British Gymnastics insurance?

My DD has gone to a gymnastics after school club since year 1, she is now in year 4 and has passed bronze. We are movins so I am looking for a new club, and it looks like it will be at a gymnastics centre, not an after school club. They started talking about insurance, British Gymnastics insurance? Is this a requirement on top of the fee? Surely the fee I pay to the club should cover that, if it even is a requirement?

When my dc went to a gymnastics club, this was also on top of the class fee, but only if you had a place on a regular class. it did mot apply if you went to the turn-up-and-pay-per-session classes.

I don't know why. But this was at a reputable gymnastics centre which trained some of England's champions.

At my son's gymnastics club it's all included in the monthly fee. At his swimming club we pay it separately. It must all depend on the way the club have decided to do it.

We pay annually. I guess the club has to pay annually in advance so would rather get it all in one go that in drips. We do the same for swimming.

We pay it annually at DD's gymnastics club too.

Fees for the sessions are paid monthly.

Hm, okay, so it's not unheard of. This new club is already more expensive than the current one, it had better be good!

Never heard of swimming insurance either!

Swimming is ASA membership. You need it to compete.

My son has doubly broken his arm TWICE this year and had four operations. It helps pay for his physio and hospital benefit.

Gymnastics seems harmless unil you start doing proper hours and training...then the risk of injury increases. Plus DC won't be able to do any comps without it.

Kosmo, sorry to hear about your son. Don't worry, I will pay it, as they won't accept DD in classes without, I just haven't heard of it before.

Yes, DD2 has it for gymnastics. I was slightly annoyed at having to find the extra money.

However, I'm delighted to find it's also valid for trampolining with a totally separate club.

I guess that's the point, it's individual membership/insurance for you. Much simpler for competitions and people changing clubs or simply changing groups and doing more hours.

Calculating what to add to the fees when you have DCs doing one hour a week and DCs who live at the gym would be a nightmare. Much easier for them to pay the right level subscription themselves.

DD2 also rather likes receiving her membership card, (and sometimes wrist bands or stickers). In this electronic age children don't get many letters just for them.

Yes, we also pay this on top of fees. Annually.

Yes a BG registered club has to pay up front membership for each member.It's only about £17 ayear for rec members but once they start doing competitions it goes up to £40 ish for silver.

yes - like hellskitty has said any club registered with BG has to pay upfront membership for everyone in the club. School clubs are different and don't have to be registered with BG.
