Trying to find some ideas for different types of songs for dd.

Up until now she sings in a sort of classical style and I would like to hear her sing something that isn't Britten or Purcell.
So please no more nymphs and shepherds.
Also can anybody suggest any good role models who sing more pop type of things that dd could manage, she is nearly 10.
Must add she can manage several Disney songs like reflection, candle on the water, someday my prince will come, Pocohontas songs, etc.
Has also done most of list C ABRSM up to grade 6.

Something to stretch her sideways into a more pop style would be brilliant, but obviously something that would suit a more classically sounding voice iyswim.

Tia for any suggestions.

Both my dd sing:
Musical songs:
Tomorrow
Where is love
Naughty
Castle on a cloud
Doh a deer
Supercallifragelistic
Truly scrumptious
Little people
When I grow up
Quiet
Consider yourself

Then more traditional songs:
Morning has broken
Amazing Grace
Smugglers song
Friday Morn (mermaid song)
Matchstick men

That sort of thing.

Have you tried some of the High school musical ones for a cross over into more pop type?

Thanks Dewe

I think she has done most of those, little people is a new one to her, I'll give it a go.
HSM was alright when she was little but now a bit older she doesn't really like them. I think she watched the films too much when younger Grin
It is so difficult finding new material especially the more modern songs.

What about more pop style musicals like 13 & Camp Rock? Anything in Into The Woods (Giants in the Sky?) Some of the songs they cover on Glee would be suitable. My DTDs are in a choir and are doing a concert tomorrow. They're doing
Going to the Country (From Blitz)
Rhythm of Life (tricky as a solo!)
What it Means to be a Friend (from 13)
Let Me Entertain You (Robbie Williams)
Electricity (from Billy Elliott)
The Power of Love
When I Grow Up (Matilda)
Plus some Christmas songs.

They're 7.

Electricity would be a good one if she's not done that already, as would What it Means to be a Friend

Some of it is a bit old in content but what about 'What It Means to Be A Friend' from 13

EvilTwins · 15/12/2013 15:32

Oo, Chestnuts - I've suggested that one too. My DTDs are singing that in a concert tomorrow, and they're 7. They haven't questioned any of the lyrics...

ChestnutsroastingintheFireligh · 15/12/2013 19:18

That particular song is fine - it's some of the rest of 13 that's a bit more teenagery!

Thanks, I haven't heard of these songs so will you tube them.
What it means and Electricity.
Just something different to consider is brilliant.

She drives us mad, neither dh or I are into Opera, Britten, Purcell and the many folk songs and sacred hymns she sings.

I love musicals, jazz, middle of road, pop, something a bit more modern and swingy.

We don't play her any classical or the above mentioned and her singing teacher suggests things but she doesn't like them.

I do think its partly down to her voice type though and not suiting many popular songs.

Thank you again, I'll let you know how we get on Xmas Grin
