Beginner guitar book?

Looking for some recommendations for a beginner guitar book for my dd please.

Her grandad has just bought her a 3/4 size guitar as an early birthday present and while he plays well and intends to teach her (!), I am looking for a book to support this. She plays violin and is used to reading music, but obviously it is going to be a change getting used to a new instrument.

I have had a quick look on amazon, but it seems that a lot of the beginner books are either aimed at adults or only contain nursery rhymes which she will be bored playing.

Can anyone recommend a good book/ series please? She is 8 by the way. Thanks!

Hi - I played and taught informal recorder, keyboard and percussion in primary schools when I was a TA.

Have found these for you to look at:

www.musicroom.com/browse/arrangement.aspx?category_id=store6_arrangementgroup1_arrangement36

and this USED to be a popular series many years ago:

www.bertweedon.com/playinaday.htm

and this might be worth looking at:

www.booksforguitar.co.uk/

Martin Taylor is my favourite guitarist, and he does on-line tuition (but I have no idea of the cost:

Stupid phone, I think I will look at the progressive method book (and might order some Martin Taylor for my dad as a Christmas present!).

If you haven't already bought one I can promise you the best one is Guitar Basics (Longworth/Walker, Faber) it comes with a CD of wonderful backing tracks so the kids feel they sound good from the start and covers every musical style you can imagine

Ps as a guitar teacher of 20 years, I promise you I know them all. This one has revolutionised my teaching Grin

I ordered the Guitar Basics book and it arrived yesterday, DD has been reading it and is very keen to get started so it looks like a hit! Many thanks!

So glad she likes it Grin

Ps I used to use the progressive method and it is nicely presented, good tunes etc but is essentially adapted from books for other instruments whereas Guitar Basics is thought through from a guitar specific technical point if view as well which makes it much easier to progress well with good technique... I could go on, should probably get a job working for Faber's PR!
