Beavers/Scouts

If your children go to Beavers or Scouts - do you know if the staff are police-checked? and if staff have been there for many years, how often do they get checked? I am not so worried about the weekly events; but more concerned about the sleep-overs & camps coming up...

Thanks - will do Smile

Notice OP did not come back Hmm

noname, the staff who have been there a long time wouldn't still be there if there was even a slight suspicion that they had done anything even slightly inappropriate, the scout movement are really careful on it (as are the Guides). If you are worried about the camps either don't send your child or talk to the leaders about volunteering as a helper.

They are not staff!
I also think there is something a bit off about thinking I am OK for cheap child care but you don't actually trust me off the usual premises.

sorry exoticfruits I think I must of looked back at the OP and got staff stuck in my head, sad thing is my parents are both scout/guide leaders and have been all my life so i really should know better!

Exactly, exoticfruits.

When it comes to camps etc, they have to do extra training before they are in charge of a camp. Then no adult will sleep in the same tent/room as a child but will be nearby incase needed in an emergency.

If you don't want your child to go then don't send them. And please remember in Scouting and Guiding "staff" are unpaid volunteers.

Fully agree with all the posts outlining the CRB checks and extra training for nights away undergone by the volunteers at beavers etc. And that OP's attitude suggests she/he may wish to reconsider whether she and her DC are suited to participating in Beavers.

Op, there is nothing wrong with following your instincts, seriously.

If you're worried then you're worried. No-one has the right to dismiss you as paranoid without knowing any reasons for your instincts.

My advice would be to volunteer to help out at the overnights so your child can still go & you don't have to worry!

And just because so someone has no record doesn't mean they are no risk.

As you can see I am not a regular poster..so just catching up...I did not intend to cause an argument with anyone; but I will not apologise for asking the question...whoever may take offense may also be paranoid...thanks for all the 'helpful' comments.
