How much do you pay for piano tunning?

Just got a annoying email from our piano tuner, said her rate (a standard routine tuning, without extra repair, usually one hour job)will go up from £70 to £75+ her travel cost, for me it would be £80!
Our piano is an up righter, one year old, perfect condition.
Is this the normal price in the current economy condition?It's not, is it?

Dunno what normal price is. I pay £45 in the shires ( came on Tuesday actually). A re-conditioned instrument bought about8 years ago.

Nought..... I married the tuner! Though like the shoemakers kids having no shoes, my piano is in dire need of tuning!

Compare price to hour with other professional (tuning takes years of training and study to pass exams and gain accreditation). Perhaps have a look on PTA website for other local tuners and see what they're charging?

The quote is in line what we would charge inc vat in south east.

Nothing. I got fed up of my old and not brilliant quality upright taking up too much space and the kids making a racket on it, so replaced it with an electric piano instead. :)

Before that, we used to pay an old blind chap to come and tune it. He used to charge about £35.

I think it was about £40, or £45 last time (probably about 6 months ago).
I'm in Midlands, not London area.

It's always worth having a phone around - our industry is not without its cowboys (in fact we charge less then many of the rogues in our area), so a good starting point is.....

No way would I pay £80.
She will price herself out of the market at those prices!

Hmm. we pay £65 in South West. so £80 in London is probably right. I guess we are closer to London South West then the £50 South West?
Problem with piano tuners, they vary a lot and if you have a good instrument well used by a picky pianist with sensitive ears and fingers, a not so good tuner can actually wreck it badly .
It is a highly skilled job so if you have a good one, I would pay up, after all its only once every 6 month..Unless you find a highly recommended one who charges less .

I can recommend a fab tuner who is far more reasonable than my previous one. He can also repair if needed. pM me if you are interested, but I suppose it depends where you live!

£50 - £60 in Suffolk for an old Bechstein.

Just find another tuner.
