Does anyone have any experience of the Stentor, Andreas Zeller or Yamaha makes? Or any others which are good. Thanks

my dc had 1/2 and 3/4 size Stentor violins which sounded pretty good.
Different instruments from the same maker can have differences in sound quality so worth trying a few.
I don't have experience of other makes but don't spend too much money as your child will need a number of different violins (depending on child's age and size) as they grow.
Look for second hand instruments as often they haven't been used long as children can grow out of them fairly quickly.
My dc got distinctions in her exams on her Stentor (examiners mark the childs performance and are aware of the affect cheap instruments have on sound quality).
If your child sticks at it and shows aptitude then save up for a good instrument when they need a full size (4/4) violin. You will be amazed at the difference in sound!!

Stentor, Rainbow, Zellor, Caswells, Hidersine are all good for beginnrs to intermediate players. 2 very important things
1- make sure you get the right size a violin is not something you can grow into, they need to be able to reach NOW
2- make sure you go to a proper violin dealer, not a general music shop, set up is everything!
If you want cheap end, try a general music shop that uses a violin dealer yo set the instruments up like Hobgoblin. They will even get second hand ones reset!
