Needing a larger violin

Dd has currently out grown her 1/4 violin and so needs a new 3/4 or 1/2 violin. We had bought the violin second hand from her old teacher but have since changed teachers.

Does anyone know any music shops in the London/ herts areas that have a trade in scheme where we buy the next size up but can sell the old one back to them.

Or can anyone recomend any places that de with renting instruments?

Try 'Thwaites' in Watford. They are string specialists, and very friendly!

It's a pity you're not near us. DS1 has just grown out of his 1/8 and will be looking for 1/4...

however, he hires them from his music school, and I think we'll carry on hiring until he reaches the next size, at least. Does your DD do music at school / music school. They may have their own rental scheme.

Thanks for all the replies.

We tried Footes in London because they were open until 6 in comparison with Thwaites who closed at 3 on saturdays. Parking outside was also very easy considering it was in c. london. DD's school doesn't do music lessons so we learn outside. With the few rental services I looked at renting would have cost around £120 each year, but we bought a new violin for £85- the used violin actually cost more! Hopefully she won't need to change till she's atleast 11 and after that there won't be any more changes.

Quip where do you live? DD's old violin was a Hendal and we would sell it for £55 even though it cost more.

Thwaites is just up from Bushey Arches, on the horrible triangular one way system as you head towards Pinner Rd. In the week you can park outside, more of a problem at the weekends.I can highly recommend them.
