She got a place at a dance school on a trial. She needed to 'fit in' and 'get on' with the other children & not make a fuss; the other children are a minimum of 2 years younger than her and up to nearly 4 years younger for some.

So she has been 'fitting in' & 'getting on' & not making a fuss - standing at the back (as she is tall & they can't see past her), letting them ask the questions because the questions she would ask were beyond them, not answering questions because it was 'nicer' to let the little ones answer

I did not know this had been going on

Last week a tutor, DD & I had a chat about how they expected so much 'more' from her; she needed to ask/answer questions, put herself forward and work harder & she admitted all this

The silly child had even been holding back so she didn't make the others look bad

She has this week to turn it all around so she can move on into a higher class - I am nervous

Katymac,
Talk to your DD.She is such a promising professional dancer, don't let anything else stop her.I don't think your DD needs to consider her age at training time. She needs to put herself forward to shine.

I'm so cross with them for understanding her so little

Katymac,
Is it getting better? I really hope your DD got the place(a specialist school?).I noticed in various thread you said how much work she has being doing.A talented, and hard working person really deserves the place to go further.

Possibly, they are 'really' dancing & to Tchaikovsky - she is in heaven

Whether they have noticed or not is the issue Hmm

I don't know anything about dance, but dance to Tchaikovsky must be very hard.Highly competitive, practice, practice, more practice is the nature of any dance routine. She must love it sooooo much to put so much effort in.I really hope they have noticed that.A young girl ,so deciplined, motivated will go much further by any way.

KatyMac - hope this week goes well for her. It is hard to guess sometimes what are those scary teachers are expecting of you. She sounds like she really deserves tha place, fingers crossed . I am sure it is obvious to see when a child is "in heaven" while dancing to Tchaikovsky :)

I hope so too, who knows what they wanted

But she has loved it - only tomorrow & then the performance
