gymnastics for DS, 4 - any advice?

DS is really keen to try it, having seen it on tv, and I think its right up his street. I am not having much luck with finding out about it though; is there a good organisation to try or do most people just find local clubs? Are 'TumbleTots' older classes any good, or not really very gymnastic-y? I don't want to pay for what we could do at the park!

Any advice would be great, we are Winchester/South Coast way. TIA

Try the BAGA website, you can search for details of clubs near you.

Both my DS and DD started gymnastics at 4yrs. DS is now 8 and has recently gave it up as he lost interest in it, but DD 6 still goes and is actually very good at it.

Just google gymnastics clubs in your local area or ask at local leisure centre or other mums to find out where local club is.

Gymnastics is very good for building up the core muscles in boys so will do your DS good. Here you pay a yearly amount to cover insurance (cant remember what it is though) and a block of 10 lessons is £38. You won't need to spend anything on gym clothes though as all the younger boys just wear any tshirt and shorts.

DD1 has just turned 4 and has been doing gymnastics since Sept. We just booked the local leisure centre classes after we were given a flyer at school. It's £40 for a block of 10/12 classes (can't remember!), & DD really enjoys it. We are now in our third block & I can really see the progression she has made. She goes in her football strip or jogging bottoms/leggings & a tshirt.

Go to a proper gymnastics club registered with British Gymnastics.
As a gymnastics coach can I just point out that football kits, leggings , jogging bottoms and loose T shirts really are all unsuitable. For a girl a leotard (well for a boy too but many won't want to them) so lycra shorts and a snug fitting T shirt tucked in.It is dangerous when their clothes are flopping down and also the coaches need to get a good hold of the child, not a handful of Tshirt!
