Any recommendations? DD needs help with sharps + flats & key signs, but any sort of fun workbook might help. We will go browsing in a real shop, otherwise, but thought I'd ask here first.

She is 10yo, working towards Grade 2.

Hi Adventures. I think at 10 she is ready for the normal theory work books published by abrsm. Is this the board she will be doing? IME it is better to learn/teach from these resources to begin with rather than complicating it as so many child friendly books tend to do. I don't know why they publish these things, maybe they believe parents will think their child needs this approach. You can buy from any music shop and online. Also ask her teacher/ find a teacher to help with theory it is worth it in the end.

Trinity G exams, would you mind providing a link to a "normal theory" book you have in mind?

I have the pink one (Eric Taylor), which I love as a reference, but even her own teacher says it's very dry, (own teacher has not suggested an alternative) just thought something very easy with worksheets would be good, esp. for boosting her confidence. I have a piano kid's theory book like that, but it's piano, not violin. And works more on rhythm than anything else, whereas apparently it's sharps/flats & circle of 5ths type stuff DD might need to focus on (at moment).

Hello Adventures. Apart from the abrsm one I really couldn't say. It is quite plain and a bit boring but covers everything. I think most of the book s I've come across have been dry too. The Eric Taylor books are the ones I have for dd and for us its a case of info you need to know. If you can't find one maybe ask her teacher if there's anything she can suggest to make it more fun. Its ok in our case as dh then encourages her to do something whacky with the info she has learnt. I know there are rhymes for remembering sharps and flats but thats about it really. Sorry I can't be more help. If I do find anything I will pm you. I'm going to collect dds violin from repairs this week and will ask them to look in their catalogue. In meantime good luck.
Sorry forgot to ask is she taking theory exam? I ask as with it not being compulsory we don't do them with dd, just cover what she needs really then will take gr5 when compulsory.

The musicland books here are excellent.

Chester series are nice, or the trinity guildhall ones. Both much more interesting for that age group than AB!
