DD costs way too much!

The lessons
The shoes
The shows
The Exams

& right now the damn ballroom & latin dresses

I have spent a fortune on them; so much so, I have had to put all her Juvenile dresses on eBay to try & make up the cost

An absolute fortune!!! (I just added it all up, I should never do that)

Dont' add up, if you can afford it month to month that's good enough, methinks.
DD was up to £35/week at one point.

madwomanintheattic · 19/03/2012 14:26

I never add it up. I'm just glad that the third kid has dropped dance now. I'm aiming for the second one to drop most of it by next year. Wink, which should just leave one.

Dance is by far the worst culprit, but I can't even think to add up all of it. It makes me twitch.

I wonder why I can't afford to eat get my hair cut?

ginmakesitallok · 19/03/2012 14:28

I'm lucky as DDs sance isn't too expensive - £35 per term and then just shoes/leotard/skirt. think she's had the same skirt since she started (been going for about 4 years) Am not looking forward to violin lessons invoice though.

KatyMac · 19/03/2012 16:17

I keep reminding myself I am training her for a career but it really doesn't cut it Sad

I guess I need to get a grip

I've just been pondering the same with my DS. Swimming 4 times per week costs me £66 per month and now he's been moved up to the next squad so I'm looking at £88 per month. ExDH insists I should fund this out of child maintenance! AIBU to refuse? How can I persuade DS he's not going to be in the Olympics, so how about we save ££ now?!

KatyMac · 19/03/2012 22:59

At least DD can earn a living at dance; whether performing or teaching

I guess

She could be a feckless NEET instead. I think anyone with a motivated & busy teen should be relieved & delighted. I expect to still be booting DS1's butt out the door every day when he's like... 30. :)

KatyMac · 20/03/2012 07:36

I am relieved and delighted and broke Grin

I feel your pain. My dd does gym - so not quite as expensive as dance, but I've just found out how much her classes are going to be (12 hours a week training). I nearly cried.

KatyMac · 20/03/2012 07:42

At least lots (but not all) of DD's lessons are funded - I really couldn't afford even half of them

I have two but only paying one, at least for now because dd2 is just 2.5. Dd1: ballet, swimming, piano, squad gymnastics and not to mention the 66mile drive per gym day. I am postponding buying a character skirt because soon enough her gym hours will be bumped up and something will have to go.

KatyMac · 20/03/2012 19:00

I can't even imagine the mileage.........I don't want to imagine the mileage

I've just worked out that when my new bill comes, that after my mortgage my DDs gym fees (between them) will be the highest bill I have - more expensive than my council tax or any other utility bill I've got.

And that's before I start buying competition leotards, training leotards, competition fees and so on....

My DDs are only 8 and 5, do its gonna get much more expensive as they increase their hours as they get older....

I still think I'm better off than the mum whose Dd dances though!

Glittertwins · 23/03/2012 08:57

Lizzy, does he not swim in a club? £66 per month fees is a lot more than we pay for ours.
