Adult learning a new instrument - any suggestions?

I thought I might learn a musical instrument - but don't know what would be appropriate.

I can read music and can play the piano very rustily.

I am up for most things but I am constrained by having really small hands (so not much stretch).

Ideally I'd like to learn something that would enable me to join with others... very eventually, unless The World's Worst Orchestra exists.

Any ideas gratefully appreciated.

Flute, or piccolo if your hands are really small

tenor horn? music written in treble clef, easy to get a sound out of, great for brass bands

I've always wanted to play the flute.

had a saxophone teacher for a while but didn't progress as she was hitting on me and kept arriving in lower and lower cut tops - all got a bit awkward but when you say you're up for most things I don't suppose you meant that.

cornet and join a local brass band - most have training sections

Thanks for your suggestions... being up for most things clearly doesn't include having it off with the music teacher unless he looks like that de Jardin bloke from The Artist.

Not sure about brass... redolent of Salvation Army. Not that I dislike the Salvation Army - excellent charity and their Christmas Carols bring a tear to the eye, but I really couldn't take the pledge.

I've recently taken up the cello. Is good fun :) And they come in various sizes. I somehow have managed to borrow one from the local music service who also found a teacher who comes out to my house to teach me :)
