Dance Festival mums, come talk to me about stage make up

Okay, I am now over the shock of sending my 7 year onto stage in heavy, dark, eye shadow and lipstick.

But, I realise now it is expected that I will put this stuff on her going forward. She is signed up for a character and a tap dance in Feb. So, I'm wondering if there is a book or website which can give me some ideas of what to do with the make up. I think our colours are blue/silver/pink. Santa is dropping a variety of blue/silver eyeshaows and silver eyeliner, pink blush, lipstick etc. into her stocking. Now, I just need to work out what to put where.

Can anyone point me to some good samples. She wants to be a bit glittery/funky (which goes with her costume. But, I also want to avoid making her look really tacky 'cause I don't know what the heck I'm doing.

Thank you!

I have to say I hate the thick making children look older festival make-up.

I use mostly proper stage make-up for dd (as she is allergic to cheaper brands and facepaint. The object of stage make-up (on stage) is to either create a character (She is doing a dance from Cats in a couple of weeks for example or in her last show she was a doll in a toyshop) or to counteract the fact that bright stage lights wash out the skin and make the eyes and other features appear smaller.

The brands I use are Grimas and Charles Fox or Kryolan.

There is an America how to do stage make-up website here

Mind if I ask where you buy your make-up? I looked for ages on line but lots of sites had no pics (or only for some colours) or I wasn't sure if the online colour would be an accurate picture of the colour when the product arrived.

We are in West London, so if there are shops in and around London wouldn't mind venturing out in person.

I buy online at www.showmakeup.com but if you can get to the Charles Fox shop in Covent Garden they have everything (too much as you sort of get lost for choice.

Another good brand but a bit pricey is MAC again there is a shop in Londond.

You can get some stuff in normal make-up (Boots suits my daughter's skin). I get things like blue eyeshadows and rose coloured lipstick (for ballet) from there.

Forgot to say I phoned up showmakeup.com the first time and they were very helpful advising me on colours.
