Can anyone advise ... My daughter's lovely German boyfriend said that he may have to return to Germany, as the law is changing and he misses the 2020 citizenship/ settled status date by one month. He is an economic contributor. Help.can anyone advise? What is happening. I thought Labour were more pro Europe?

No one can help. Brexit royally fucked the UK.

He can get a visa but may need a certain income and sponsor

He has to apply for leave to remain like everyone else. European countries are just like the rest of the world now. Thank Brexit for that.

He would also have to apply for outside of the country in most cases. Long road, expensive and not easy.

Get him to try for a job in Dublin or anywhere in Ireland, (He has free movement in EU), then your daughter can live (and work) with him there (free movement between Britain and Ireland) and can fly or ferry back and forth often. Has she got transferable skills?

Or he can go back to Germany and try for a visa for UK.

In what way is he an economic contributor? If he is working for a UK company, he could get an indefinite leave to remain visa.

Do you mean he's missed making his EUSS application by one month? If so, he can still make a late application but he's going to need an excellent reason as to why it's late.

Otherwise, he'll need to be sponsored for a work permit by a U.K. company. They'll have to prove that they can't fill the role he's taking with a U.K. citizen. He'll have to return to Germany & make his application.

If he’s been working here 5 years surely he can apply for citizenship?

I don't think Germany allows dual citizenship unless its with another EU country so if he did want British citizenship he would have to give up his EU, which would be a mistake

Can she speak German?
I met my wife in London but currently live/work in Germany.
I learned German in order to know what my mother-in-law's saying ;-)
Mind you, if they're not (yet) married, that might not help so much...
