Hello,

Can anyone who has been through the process or is going through the process advise?

Sending original documents - Did you send signed for/tracked and how did you get your documents back?

I sent tracked and got them back no problem when it was done. I did it for my daughter. Once we got FBR for her we applied (all 3 of us) for passports. We both have an Irish parent so automatically citizens. It was smoother and faster than the UK passport process which we had to renew shortly after.

Incidentally, the Irish passport office accepted notarised copies of passport and driving license that was used as part of the proof bundle for the application. Getting a notary wasn't a problem - just Google it for nearest local one.

For anyone thinking they give out FBR like candy, they don't. It is an onerous and expensive process. Rightly so. But the passport office made it as efficient as possible. Good communication too. They have live chat etc. It was really very good.

Thank you for all your reassurances. I meet the criteria through lineage ☘️

Great. I found it straightforward to get copies of relevant birth certificates from Irish authorities where necessary. Good luck

My dad most inconsiderately didn't think to get himself on to the FBR (via his grandmother) before I was born Wink

I got the message from them to say they had received all my documents which is pretty quick considering they wrre only delivered on Tuesday. That is much quicker thsn I anticipated as based on what I had read on the internet, some people weren't even getting that for months so hopefully the Brexit/Covid backlog is moving along now.

Well done. I think there's a tracker on the mobile version of the website but until they start looking at it, it's not meaningful. I used to do little sneak peeks at it every so often just to cheer myself up

Oh goodness, my daughters' applications were sent in October 2020, still heard nothing except the auto reply. Yikes.
Mine took about 9 months in about 2016/17

pinkpapaya · 08/05/2022 13:56

Hope you hear something soon @Konyeshno ⚘️

I would get in touch with them, @Konyeshno. Something is amiss.

Sorry, didn't see you replies Pink and Papaya. I called the FBR, perhaps two months ago, and a lovely guy said they were just finishing up on January 2020 applications, so it'll be a while yet!
At least I know and can stop worrying about paperwork going to our old address
