EU Covid certificates - why are they not accepted in the UK?

I work in the tourism industry. Don't want to out where I work, but take it from me that all our visitors are from the rest of Europe.
2 weeks ago, the 27 EU countries started to implement an EU Digital Covid certificate. This enables people who have been fully vaccinated etc to travel across borders relatively freely (travel can be stopped if there is a justifiable reason though).
But we STILL can't have visitors. The UK Government has decided that people who are fully vaccinated can travel from an Amber country (much of the EU) to the UK and don't then have to isolate or do as much testing. But ONLY if they have been fully vaccinated in the UK by the NHS.
Similarly, unvaccinated (or vaccinated) children coming to the UK from Amber countries don't have to isolate. But ONLY if they are UK residents. If they are resident in France, Germany or wherever then they have to isolate for 10 days. And do more testing too.
Other hospitality venues are less stuffed than we are, admittedly, because they take UK visitors, but the whole sector is suffering because of these rules, affecting us over the peak holiday period (and indefinitely).
So sick of the xenophobia - what seems to be a policy decision from the top, in so many areas, that the UK will never co-operate with the EU countries. Regardless of how it disadvantages actual UK citizens and our economy (and reputation).

It appears that this is reciprocated - the EU isn't currently recognising UK certificates either. At least, Belgium isn't, and I doubt they're alone... It's so infuriating for those of us who just want to see our families for the first time in so long, and we're all double jabbed with the same bloody vaccines - quite possibly made in the same factories - and still can't do it.

I hope it's just some technical issue that can be easily resolved, but the general political temperature isn't very encouraging. It's all so frustrating. Even people who wanted Brexit surely didn't want to completely smash all areas of cooperation!

I think I heard that B Johnson had rejected an offer for the UK to be part of the scheme, but I don't know where I heard it from. It would certainly be typical of his behaviour so far.

People really don't get it, do they ?

The next 20 or so years are going to be dominated - at every turn - by governments of all stripes having to prove what a fucking brilliant idea Brexit was by basically having to act like there is no benefit in anything the EU does.

Then when the bulk of Brexiteers have snuffed it, the narrative can return to the "nasty EU not letting us join their club" we had for most of the 60s until 1973. Which is when I can clearly recall the UKs accession to the EEC as being one up on Johnny Foriegner.

As always, feel free to check my working ....

Co-operation / just being REASONABLE would make the situation much more bearable. Eg allowing performers to work for 3 months - in both directions. But everyone is being thrown to the wolves, even when it makes absolutely no sense. Because the Government really doesn't give a F about its own citizens.

I have my EU Green pass and am a British citizen but can't use it in the UK - ridiculous.
