Good King BBBBaBoris looked out,
on the Port of Dover,
There the shit lay round about,
Deep around the stopover;
Brightly shone the moon that night,
Tho’ the frost was cruel,
When a poor man came in sight,
Delivering stuff for Yule.

“Bugger SAGE and stand by me,
We've all stuff that needs selling,
Yonder peasant, who is he?
Where and what his dwelling?”
“Sire, he lives a good league hence,
The other side the EU;
Though relations maybe tense,
He's trying to get goods through.”

“Oh god I need another wine,
I have many crisis to consider:
We must tell them its all fine,
I must not be seen to dither.”
SAGE and monarch, forth they went,
forth they went together;
Through the nation's sad lament
and really crappy weather.

“Sire, our plight is darker now,
And the covid transmission stronger;
Fails my heart, I know not how;
To keep Tier 2 much longer.”
“Soon we can drop their wage.
And treat them all more coldly
In Britain's new chrony age
A time to rob more boldly.”

In their master’s steps they trod,
On the quest to get minted;
Each and every last sod
Needs to be fingerprinted.
Therefore, Christian men, be sure,
DWP claimants are processing,
Ye who now will bless the poor,
God its all so depressing.

Quite amused that remainers seem more upbeat than Brexiteers.

Quite revealing too.

Might hit my image posting limit for today.

If I don't say in future - MERRY CHRISTMAS to One and All - May 2021 bring us together not apart.

That’s a really strange, childish scrawl from our esteemed PM.

I imagine he didn't sign it. Remember his pique over the letter he said he'd never send ?

I bet he refused to sign it (possibly imagining some sort of trial in future Grin) and a lackey had to do it. And because it's probably the most important piece of paper in politics since ... oh. I don't know, can any other readers suggest a famous piece of political paper from history ? then it has to look like the UK at least tried.

I bet he tries to sell that to the headbangers to "Well the thing is, here's a jolly wheeze I never actually signed it - yers, I got the tea lady to do it. That's show 'em"

Alternatively, he'll try and pretend he was Guy Fawkesed into it, and hardly had the strength left to "make his mark" on the paper that damned him.

No, I've not started drinking yet.

So how long will it be before the MPs voting it through realise what they’ve voted through?

🥂 to having an actual deal and not an ‘Australian’ one though.

derxa · 24/12/2020 17:00

Nicola needs to shut her geggie and gie us peace.

DGRossetti · 24/12/2020 17:01

Well unlike the WA, they can't turn around a few months later and whinge. Well they can. And they will. But hopefully, if nothing else, this has punctured the ever-expanding balloon of Brexit, which will allow some other things to be reported above the fold.

Still, it's a start to Brexit any way you look at it.

LouiseCollins28 · 24/12/2020 17:16

"Still, it's a start to Brexit any way you look at it."

Indeed so Wine

I think you might be nearer the truth than you realise. He should have resigned and let someone in better health do the job.

So the lorry drivers are gradually making their way home, and Brexit is finally done. At least we've still got COVID-19...

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 24/12/2020 17:32

After the last 3 years I’m just happy we have some sort of a deal. They can whinge all they want after they’ve figured out what they’ve agreed to.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 24/12/2020 17:32

@titchy

Focusing on screwing up one thing at a time is all I can take for 2021.
ICouldHaveCheckedFirst · 24/12/2020 17:38

I was certain BJ was after ND.

This deal is marginally better than ND, but will always be a long way short of what we had as members.

I’ve given up predicting what Johnson actually wants.

Only thing I’m reasonably confident about is that if he’s taking it up today and how great it is for us it’s probably not.

Bellefroidsgreenline · 24/12/2020 17:47

Appalled we have left.
Relieved we have a deal.

The interesting thing will be how we manage to do a deal with US on our own standing, without the protective support and leverage of the other EU nations around us. Not easy. And up to now, we have had competent people acting on our behalf.

Lorry drivers speak of relief as they head home after days of chaos at Port of Dover over Covid-19 border closure

"I'm never coming back here," declared one irate lorry driver as he finally made his way home.

I thought exactly the same myself. We have had a year of him dealing with Corona Virus, world beating this, fantastic that, only to see a u-turn 5 minutes later.

What exactly have we gained? I can see that we have partly minimised what we have lost, but that is not the same.

bellinisurge · 24/12/2020 17:49

Potentially one step closer to the reunification of Ireland.
Let the Brexiteers have their fun in the Arms. I can wait.

Pepperwort · 24/12/2020 17:51

“I’m never coming back here” Sad The consequences start.
Sadly I think Sturgeon is right. What’s in there is limited.

Peregrina · 24/12/2020 17:54

“I’m never coming back here”

Could you give a context to this? Was it a quote from one of the stuck lorry drivers? Who even if they get on a boat tonight probably won't make it all the way home in time for Christmas. In some countries the festivities start on Christmas Eve.

ListeningQuietly · 24/12/2020 17:55

RTB
The drivers are still key.
Even with a deal they will still be stuck in the Farage Garage / M20 Brock / Manston
for hours if not days every time they go back out of the UK

after the way they were treated this last week, many will wait and see
even if if they only earn 80% of the fee on an EU route
they can do that in a day
rather than five days

Peregrina · 24/12/2020 18:11

To me it seems we have managed something of a damage limitation exercise. As I said on another thread - let's see what has happened to the fishing industry in five year's time.

HilaryThorpe · 24/12/2020 18:23

I think it was David Allen Green who said it would take the UK five years to get out and five years to get back in again. I see this as the start of the second (very long and painful) five years.

derxa · 24/12/2020 18:23

Minette Batters English NFU leader on Sky News now. So relieved
