We have left the EU. New US president is pro-Ireland and less approving of us. Foreign aid budget cut so this will not please either.
Who are our friends post Brexit?

Again, it's a 'stepping-stone' to a new deal/new deals - without having to compete with the interests of 27 other partners

It's not. Canada is just fine with trading on EU rules and has zero interest in changing that.

The eu/uk deal is not finalised yet so why not wait with your I told you so , its like people want it to go wrong

Not finalised? It's barely started. It has already gone very very wrong.

Pepperwort · 23/11/2020 16:54

I can’t see China having any interest in invading Britain even when / if the north route becomes reliably viable. What would they want? Plus we’ll all have big problems when /if that happens. They might want a presence in the Arctic for the gas and oil, but we’re all supposed to be moving away from that now - China has shown willing in that direction.

Japan is a friend of the UK, as long as by friend you don’t mean ‘saviour’ and remember that it’s a two-way street. They could use leverage against China no doubt. They warned us against Brexit.

Clavinova · 23/11/2020 16:57

Why is a trade deal with Asia Pacific so wonderful

Found this;

9 September;

"The UK has taken a major step in the process of joining CPTPP (Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership), one of the world’s largest and most dynamic free trade areas."

"International Trade Secretary, Liz Truss, alongside the current chair of the CPTPP Commission, Mexican Economy Minister Graciela Márquez, opened discussions between senior UK trade officials and Chief Negotiators from all 11 members of the Partnership to discuss potential UK accession."

"The UK held preparatory conversations with all CPTPP members. If the UK decides to apply, it will enter into a formal accession negotiation with all member states."

@FudgeDrudge nothing official has been announced and what do these posts achieve you can't change anything its done ,

Mamamia456 · 23/11/2020 17:21

FudgeDrudge - The UK/EU deal is 95% complete.

Peregrina · 23/11/2020 17:38

The Pacific rim is still on the opposite side of the world, however much Clavinova wishes it wasn't. So we leave a free trade area which is 20 miles away at its nearest point, in favour of one 8,000 - 12,000 miles away.

ListeningQuietly · 23/11/2020 17:42

The UK/EU deal is 95% complete.
but there is no guarantee at all that the last 5% will be reached in time

Counting of the US election was 95% complete in a matter of days
but the last 5% is taking weeks and weeks ....

Inacountrygarden · 23/11/2020 20:48

@Mamamia456

FudgeDrudge - The UK/EU deal is 95% complete.
Final 5% is the most difficult and contentious
OchonAgusOchonO · 23/11/2020 20:56

@Mamamia456

FudgeDrudge - The UK/EU deal is 95% complete.
Except the remaining 5% contains a number of dealbreakers.
Pan2 · 23/11/2020 21:03

Clavinova - the really stark problem with your posts here is that you are quoting gov web sites, which as we know are replete with lies and exaggerations. This is at least consistent with govt approach on all matters. AND as you know Truss is as talentless and corrupt as the rest of them.

Pyewhacket · 23/11/2020 21:27

Yawn

Clavinova · 23/11/2020 21:42

Pan2

I found it interesting - you can count how many packets of rice and beans you have in your store cupboard if you prefer. Grin

FudgeDrudge - The UK/EU deal is 95% complete

Doesn't matter, unless the Internal Markets bill is dropped. No deal can go through with it in place. What would be the point anyway, when the UK can't be trusted to stick to the agreements they've already made.

Corcory · 24/11/2020 21:41

I'm interested Clavinova!! Digital, data and financial services are major areas we are good at and will want to expand so it makes no difference where in the world our new trading partners are Peregrina. Pharmaceuticals are also major for us so very small quantity to value even if we manufacture here.
I'm also not too worries about our relationship with the USA, they need us as much as we need them as friends, our lead in 5 eyes keeps us up there in the relationship stakes.

ListeningQuietly · 24/11/2020 21:51

R-I-G-H-T

Peregrina · 24/11/2020 22:16

So we can eat data and financial services can we?

As for the relationship with the USA - in normal times a proper politician winning would be a good thing, but potentially breaking the GFA is most definitely not.

bellinisurge · 25/11/2020 08:04

Fuck with GFA with Trump in charge might have been a bit of a challenge to UK/US relations but, if you're a Brexitwat, worth the risk.
Fuck with GFA with Biden in charge and you are completely fucked. Good job we don't need to negotiate anything important with them any time soon .....

Pepperwort · 25/11/2020 16:40

I'm also not too worries about our relationship with the USA, they need us as much as we need them as friends

That’s what a lot of people said about the EU too. You have to laugh.

mrslaughan · 25/11/2020 17:52

Clav - your having a laugh if you think NZ is going to buy machine rand pharmaceutical from the uk with Asia on its doorstep.

I hope you are paid to out this shit on the threads.

Clavinova · 25/11/2020 21:13

Clav - your having a laugh if you think NZ is going to buy machine rand pharmaceutical from the uk with Asia on its doorstep.

This is odd then;

"New Zealand-EU Trade Report for the year ending June 2020 - 24 September 2020."

"The main imports from the EU continued to be: machinery & equipment, vehicles, aircraft & parts, pharmaceutical products, electronics, optical & medical instruments, plastics, beverages and dairy products. Together these imports accounted for over 65% of all imports from the EU."

"the value of machinery imports grew by 3.9% to reach a value of NZ$1.94bn meaning that machinery imports have overtaken vehicles to become the largest import category from the EU."

www.mfat.govt.nz/en/trade/mfat-market-reports/market-reports-europe/new-zealand-eu-trade-report-for-the-year-ending-june-2020-24-september-2020/

Peregrina · 25/11/2020 22:25

Why will New Zealand want a UK trade deal if they already have an EU one?

Peregrina · 25/11/2020 22:28

One of the points of that article was the increased NZ trade with Asia.

flashbac · 25/11/2020 22:56

All Clav does is Google all day it seems. you can find any old shit on Google if you have time in your hands. Like another poster has mentioned in terms of money, hope the money is worth it Clav.

Clavinova · 26/11/2020 18:46

Why will New Zealand want a UK trade deal if they already have an EU one?

Why wouldn't they? New Zealand haven't got an FTA with the EU yet - although they are trying to negotiate one.

All Clav does is Google all day it seems.

Sorry to disappoint you on that - I'm just quick at googling.

hope the money is worth it Clav.

I do it for love. Grin
