Is anyone else feeling slightly uneasy that the individual who headed up the Leave campaign now seems to be running the Treasury?

It's that "taking back control from unelected bureaucrats" that everyone voted for, remember? Get with the programme!

MrsWhisker · 14/02/2020 13:29

Boris is very happy to have kept his post. Wink

brexitsmexit · 14/02/2020 13:39

Yeah the irony that the Country is now being run by an unelected bureaucrat has not escaped me! 🙄

Iain Dale on GMTV - the Justice Secretary kept his job but his team of advisers did not - so that's 2 departments he's running.

Very uneasy, but it's not like those of us nit wanting the Tories back in, didn't see it coming. Kind of hoped we were wrong though, but we now have an unelected Machiavellian nutter running the show - oh the irony ☹️

Peregrina · 16/02/2020 09:44

the Justice Secretary kept his job but his team of advisers did not

I hadn't realise that - so Javid had more spine when it came to protecting his staff than the Justice Secretary did?

MysteryTripAgain · 16/02/2020 10:12

A cabinet of leave supporters is better than a cabinet of remainers.

Cameron and May proved that.

Jason118 · 16/02/2020 10:18

A cabinet of competence is better than a cabinet of leavers

Mockersisrightasusual · 16/02/2020 10:34

A cabinet of spineless toadying vegetables a la Thatcher and Blair is not what we need.

MysteryTripAgain · 16/02/2020 10:38

People who support leave are more likely to try than those who support remain. Cameron and May were against leave and look at the mess they made.

Impossible to lead a task if you don’t believe in the task. For example, would labour go around canvassing for the conservatives?

jasjas1973 · 16/02/2020 11:01

All PMs have their highly influential "advisors" and build a cabinet to support their aims, but it is remarkable that a man who spent years studying in Russia is now the PMs go to man.

A few years ago, just knowing a Russian would be enough to be chucked out of Govt.

Its not as if post Soviet Russia has become a benign state.

MysteryTripAgain · 16/02/2020 11:12

I have worked in Russia for several years in the Kashagan project in the Caspian and later in Iraq for Lukoil. It has not been a hindrance when seeking employment.

DrBlackbird · 16/02/2020 11:40

It'd be nice if there was less universalising the personal all around.

jasjas1973 · 16/02/2020 13:38

MTA Rather irrelevant unless you advise Boris Johnson? the Russian state have murdered british citizens on UK soil.... shot down a Dutch aeroplane, invaded at least two countries and have committed war crimes in Syria.... all since the collapse of the USSR, they are not a friendly state
oh and there is also an outstanding report into Russian interference in UK elections which Johnson/Cummings want us to forget.

MysteryTripAgain · 16/02/2020 14:16

@Jasjas

I would agree the Russia doesn’t like the EU.

Tanith · 16/02/2020 19:41

Cameron is all sorts of despicable incompetent, but you can't really blame him for the mess following the referendum: he resigned immediately.

You can, of course, blame him for the referendum itself and for running away at a time of crisis. I'll happily join you in that!

brexitsmexit · 19/02/2020 08:27

Well whatever the arguments for Leave v Remain we've now left the EU.
My unease is around the fact that the treasury and probably OGD are being run by a man who wasn't elected, doesn't seem to hold any sort of moral code, is hiring crackpot advisers using taxpayers money and doesn't seem to be accountable to anyone!

notimagain · 19/02/2020 09:32

the Russian state have... shot down a Dutch aeroplane

?????

jasjas1973 · 19/02/2020 14:51

Sorry, Malaysian plane that originated from Holland... but its not really the point is it?

notimagain · 19/02/2020 19:55

I understand and agree with the point you were making - and yes I know it appears I was being picky but I think it was important to not let inaccuracies slip into the argument if we can help it...There’s enough of that coming from the “other side”.

noblegiraffe · 19/02/2020 20:00

You should feel uneasy because he totally fucked up education when he was running that via Michael Gove.
