Speaker Bercow is gone.

Speculation that Johnson is parachuting into Rutland.

Rumours that the Brexit Party won't contest the election.

A new speaker to be elected on Monday.

Parliament to dissolve next week.

Brexit? Oh we've forgotten that until Friday 13th...

Sadly I think here, writ large is the problem with delaying Brexit until after a general election. I completely get there are compelling reasons for Remainers to want to do that, but had "Deal" been agreed to and an election followed that the Brexit Party would, IMO, be nowhere. As it is they could have a real impact.

prettybird · 01/11/2019 11:32

Oh good, Faragit is planning on putting up a franchisee candidate in every constituency in England, Wales and Scotland Grin

That should help the SNP as those who still haven't yet seen through the Conservatives might be conned to vote for one of the Git's franchisees candidates and do split their vote Wink

Don't see any Labour voters in Scotland going for the Turquoise Party either.

It's good news for the UK if he does go ahead with his "threat" as he'll split the Conservative vote.

I think it was Oak who was saying getting the deal through would be safer. She has a point. Louise.

We are back to where we started after listening to that No Deal v Remain.

It could be carnage.

DGRossetti · 01/11/2019 11:37

Hopefully this will be a very difficult election for Farage Grin.

He's basically got to try and convince a lot of people who aren't really looking too closely that whatever Boris has done isn't "Brexit", which means that he's got to challenge that cadre of people that think the sun shines out of Boris arse. Who by definition aren't the brightest of bunnies. I'm guessing a lot of people like Boris because he's "done Brexit" ....

Hopefully we should see BXP and Tories having to sling a lot of mud at each other in their own interests, whilst slinging mud at Labour risks helping the other side but not themselves. This leads Labour to just hammer the NHS message every waking minute of every day ...

Or have I got something wrong ?

Touching on Grenfell, briefly, I noted a comment - possibly throwaway, possibly mote sinister - along the lines that it suits some for the Fire Service to be criticised over the advice it gave at Grenfell as it makes it more likely a panicked public could ignore Fire Service advice if (God Forbid) a similar disaster were to strike. When you remember the "scum" sentiment after the fire it's all too easy to imagine Sad

I thought Johnson had suspended the WAB, thereby leaving Parliament with no option.

DGRossetti · 01/11/2019 11:41

Also, the best campaign tack for the Tories to take is that Brexit is a Done Deal.

If they are forced to admit in campaigning that it isn't, they're sort of advocating people that don't like Boris deal could get it changed.

Vote Tory.
Why ?
To get Brexit done.
But isn't Brexit already done ? Isn't that what Boris secured with the EU just before the election ?
Well, yes, but ..
So if Brexit is done, why vote Tory ?
Um, well, to make sure it's done.
So it's not done, and it's possible to change it ?
Er, well that not what I said.
So what did you say ?
Oh, look, a bus.

MockersthefeMANist · 01/11/2019 11:42

Just seen Tice on BBC: Does he really think BJ and the Tories will junk their own deal to annoint Farage?

Brexit will eat itself?

Basilpots · 01/11/2019 11:44

Kind of kills the oven ready microwave meal ‘deal’ if you have to find it in the freezer and defrost it first Confused

Basilpots · 01/11/2019 11:46

Mockers was thinking the same thing.

He’s been telling everybody what a great deal it is he’s not going to be able to junk it now.

DGRossetti · 01/11/2019 11:46

Just seen Tice on BBC: Does he really think BJ and the Tories will junk their own deal to annoint Farage?

The Tories are doomed required to follow the "campaign to win" mantra and emphatically rule out any deals before the election.

The fact that MPs are "allowed" to make such pleas in public speaks volumes about the level of organisation behind the scenes.

If anyone was expecting a well oiled party machine to flawlessly pump out the Tory line, they are going to be in for a long wait.

DGRossetti · 01/11/2019 11:47

If Boris can junk the deal, so can anyone else ....

LouiseCollins28 · 01/11/2019 11:50

Agree Basil. Boris can hardly walk away from his own deal now.

I think a "this is the deal" line can still work, but its clearly going to be attacked from all sides.

DGRossetti · 01/11/2019 11:54

Agree Basil. Boris can hardly walk away from his own deal now.

Only when campaigning. If he gets a majority, it'll hit the bin faster than you know it.

DGRossetti · 01/11/2019 11:58

I think a "this is the deal" line can still work, but its clearly going to be attacked from all sides

Only from BXP, really. And Tories will have to fight that line.

It sounds back to front, but I really think Labour can quietly slide Brexit to one side as a Tory problem, and reaffirm, restate, remind, rejoice, recap, remind again, that if people really want the NHS, then it's not going to get that from the Tories.

People are sick to the back teeth about Brexit. But they could talk about the NHS all day. (That's a freebie tip for dealing with BXP candidates, by the way).

LouiseCollins28 · 01/11/2019 12:03

Can't agree with that. Lib Dems seemingly campaigning entirely on Brexit so it will be attacked by them; Labour already declined to support "Deal" because they prefer their own version, so it will be attacked by them too; SNP only interested in an independent Scotland so they'll attack it too. The SNP position is actually the most interesting one because it seems to me that UK Brexit is likeliest to bring about the outcome they really want, Independence for Scotland.

DGRossetti · 01/11/2019 12:04

I wonder what (and it will be non-zero) %age of the population think Brexit has happened ? Which (if they have a vote) is another obstacle for the Tory/BXP factions. Not helped by Boris ramping up the hyperbole about Dying in a Ditch.

If I were more cynical and less scrupulous than I am, I would seriously consider a campaigning tactic of claiming Brexit was done now, and the real issue is ... the NHS. After all what have we learned these past 3 years ? That you can tell whatever whoppers you like, and there's no comeback.

Or is that just my weird mind again ?

ARoomWithoutADoor · 01/11/2019 12:06

PMK. Cold and miserable here.

Just received a letter from DWP 'Debt Centre' demanding £1460.56!!!
I have had no letter telling me there has been a miscalculation.
(and there shouldn't have been as I had the CAB help me with it all)
I'm on my 3rd 50+ mins of holding. Cut off on first two attempts.
sorry for the grinchy post.

Happy 3rd No Brexit Day everyone

ARoomWithoutADoor · 01/11/2019 12:12

(sorry for the personal post)

Icantreachthepretzels · 01/11/2019 12:14

Sorry to keep asking but ... has anything exploded yet? At all? even a little?

ARoom Flowers that's terrible, I hope you get it sorted.

Basilpots · 01/11/2019 12:15

74% are dissatisfied with the way the Government is running the country. Just one in five (19%) are satisfied and 6% don’t know. This makes a net satisfaction rating of minus 55 (which has improved from minus 67 in September but is still very low for a new government).

From that Ipsos poll yesterday that was giving Tory a big lead.

They really won’t want to talk about the NHS. But will they want to talk about the deal that is also ‘excellent’ ‘awful’ and ‘not Brexit’ all at the same time ? Confused

It continues to be a mess.

Basilpots · 01/11/2019 12:17

Room your entitled to a grinchy post. Could have thrown in a few more expletives though, get the count up ! Grin

ARoomWithoutADoor · 01/11/2019 12:28

OK:

Fuck the DWP and their 'Debt Centre'

Fuck Off to the DLA telling me my 12 year old with Autism will get highest rate care for only 2 years as she might 'get better'.

FUck the LA who tell me she has 'no unmet needs and doesn't need an EHCP' despite her attendance being 46% due to Autistic Anxiety.
They closed the village School. She now travels 50minutes to the next school by bus. Only she can't - so I have to drive her.

Fuck the DWP who took away my mobility car and my blue badge when I got moved to PIP. Massively hate the 'professional' who assessed me and lied throughout the resulting report. There ARE no buses (very rural). So, I either gete DD to school or get taken to Court.

Fuck the lot of them!

And I am not thrilled with either set of Grandparents (or my ex-Husband) who all voted Brexit. Do they not care about these children's life chances How CAN they be so bloody stupid?

Basilpots · 01/11/2019 12:29

Room Flowers

Angry &Grin (for the swears)

Basilpots · 01/11/2019 12:34

Have been watching Sky’s reports into the ‘care’ young people with Autism receive. Including being locked up in a cell. Appalling. There is a Government report out.

Between Trump endorsing Johnson and Farage announcing he intends to split the leave vote by standing in every constituency, the last 24 hours have been quite cheering.
