Can anyone explain the deal to me and how it differs from the previous one? The only news I've really heard is about the Irish Backstop part, which I understand. Is it a hard or soft Brexit? I heard today there's going to be a vote on a second referendum?! I'm in Spain with no access to British tv and am catching the odd article, but I still haven't seen anything laying out the actual deal. If it's too long to explain, a link that would be great.

It's a very soft brexit, with a free trade agreement with the eu.

There's nothing soft about it? It's a very hard Brexit with a FTA to follow with the US. An FTA to eventually follow with the EU after more interminable negotiation.

It's carte blanche to slowly erode workers' and consumers' rights.

It's a step towards eventual reunification on the island of Ireland and an independent Scotland.

The hell it is Hmm

It's a one way ticket to hell in a hand basket.

Most sources say BJ has arranged a much 'harder' Brexit Withdrawel Arrangement than May's WA. There's a lot more bureaucracy in Johnson's version. Johnson's version more implicitly sets the UK up to be more distant from European regulations & customs union in future. Johnson's version is much more vulnerable to turning into a cliff edge after the transition period ends.

AFAIK, Both versions involve a seemingly seamless land border in Norn & the UK paying a lot of money to EU & the ECJ still having jurisdiction & EU citizen rights.

All the protections for tax, workers rights etc have been moved from the binding treaty Withdrawal Agreement part to the wishy washy Political Declaration part.
The “backstop” safety net for NI has become the frontstop ongoing arrangement to prevent a border in the island of Ireland.
The UK has been split so there will be a Customs border in the Irish Sea.
Oh and if we don’t have a FTA by the end of next year we’re back to No-deal again.
It is a far, far harder Brexit than even TM’s shit WA...
