What will happen to Polish communities etc?

Just thinking. We have a very large Polish community in our town who have been here a fair few years, loads of Polish children at the DCs school. Will anything happen to them after Brexit?

Our school has about 1/3 children with at least one Polish parent, another 1/3 parents from other EU countries. A few more have returned to Eastern Europe than in previous years, but I suspect the exchange rate has more to do with it.

I also suspect many will stay put until their five years residency for Settled Status is completed, and the status has been granted. So until a year or two after Brexit, we won't see much of an effect (I'm in London).

I'm from an area in Scotland that has had a Polish community since the second world war so nothing new here. Obviously lots of new Polish families have come here in recent years and we haven't seen a big exodus. We also have quite a few other Europeans in our village - Finnish, Swedish, Danish, Irish, French to name a few. None are moving out. My Dil is Polish, they live in the East Midlands and have lots of Polish friends and family here none of who are moving back to Poland.
As for seasonal workers. There was a scheme pre FOM that was used for seasonal workers and I know it's been brought back in in Scotland with some success. The only thing farmers have said is it needs to be rolled out further to include larger numbers.

Our area relies heavily on Eastern European farm workers and the town has a large polish population. If they all leave there's going to be a pretty devastating effect on the local economy.

The £ is not as strong as it was and Poland has policies in place to attract people back as a pp said. Teach in a language department and some have gone back as the UK is not as attractive as it was - not my words but Polish people themselves.

Some will stay, settled with children or married a Brit.

So it’s not the case that the Tories are planning to turf out settled EU members post Brexit?

At my previous job, we lost half of the EU kids, not immediately after the referendum, but once it became clear May was completely helpless against those in her own party and dependent upon the DUP.

The ones that were left had British passports - but they're very matter of fact that whilst they have a British passport, a lot of their Mums/Dads don't and they expect to get deported, as they've already seen friends' older relatives on the receiving end of the Windrush fuck up and others in the community being refused status, despite having been here for many years. They've all (the kids, not the parents, as they haven't even told them there's a trip) refusing to go on school trips in case they get refused reentry, too.

It would be nice if it was all sorted and they were all issued with irrevocable rights to stay, but I doubt that's ever going to happen, even if they actually want to after the way they've been spoken about and treated.

I am from the EU, lived in the UK for 22 years, worked or studied for all of them, married to a British man, have 2 British children. Despite all this if worse came to worse I could be denied a job, healthcare, credit and could be asked to leave unless I apply for British citizenship which would take months, lots of paperwork, exams and at a cost of approx £1300. If I were a young person choosing a place to live, work and study it obviously wouldn't be the UK.
People will leave, fewer will come and the economy will suffer greatly.

If steps like suspension of parliament and circumventing due process continue don't you think Priti Patel will get her way eventually?

So following the UK's departure ( regardless of a deal) future FoM will end. Few new Polish will arrive and some of those settled here, feeling unwelcome and vulnerable will trickle away.

The Eastern Europeans will be replaced with any brave Indian and Pakistani born people who are prepared to come into our hostile environment. Those being next in in the top three countries of arrivals here. As we need trade agreements with those countries agreements on this will be part and parcel of the new arrangements. I've definitely seen it at our school already- Swedish, Germans, Dutch, Romanians going and new arrivals are Pakistani and American actually.

If it’s like here, quite a few will simply vanish. Our local (previously oversubscribed) schools are down to 20 in a class in some cases. A number of factors at play, of course, but many of our farm workers seem to have gone
isn't that because they are seasonal workers and a lot of the crops are already in?
