This is what I received about the petition about the prorogation of parliament:

Prorogation is a prerogative Act of the Crown, exercised on the advice of Ministers. We must respect the referendum result and the UK will be leaving the EU on 31 Octoberer_ whatever the circumstances.^

Repeated themselves twice FFS.

Does it say Octoberer?!!!

MysteryTripAgain · 10/09/2019 04:12

To Perry Thatcher

Another desperate remainer.

"Oh look. There is a grammatical mistake. Surely that proves Brexit should be cancelled"

Cittadina · 10/09/2019 04:29

Surely that proves the low standards of this government.

And, cheap sarcasm is bad for your stomach Mystery.

MrsTerryPratchett · 10/09/2019 04:53

It doesn't say Octoberer. That is an example of Muphry's Law Grin

Surely anyone who expects high standards of government is justified? Surely we are entitled to expect a government that is a safe pair of hands?

Can we not expect a government that:

• proof reads documents
• follows due parliamentary process at all times
• reaches out to unify all the country
• pursues detailed policy by measured debate seeking a high degree of consensus
• acknowledges that the time is not right if parliamentary consensus is not achieved
• continues to seek parliamentary consensus over time by skilled statesmanship
• avoids economic chaos
• protects the pound
• forms confidence and supply agreements or coalitions with other parties based on consensus and policy
• does not achieve majorities by tax payer funded bribes
• triggers international Articles only with carefully considered agreed plans
• protects trade
• protects supply chains in food and medicines
• keeps parliament open at a time of national crisis
•discloses impact assessments in the normal way
• has ministers and staff who report accurately to parliamentary committees
• respects international treaties
• tells the truth about the state of international negotiations
• treats citizens legally living here with respect and stability
• considers the position of U.K. citizens living abroad
• ensures the NHS is funded and staffed appropriately
• has cabinet members who do not lie
• has cabinet ministers who not promote policy designed to create major personal profit

A government that does not proof read documents is an outward manifestation of many flaws.

Imagine if Labour were in instead!

Corbyn as PM (more feared than no deal Brexit as per polls)

Diane Abbott as chancellor. Remember her mathematics skills

John MCDonnell who wants to make every poor so they are all equal

lonelyplanetmum · 10/09/2019 05:29

I'm not a Corbyn fan but 5 Years of cabinet with Yvette Cooper ,Keir Starmer ,David Lammy, Hilary Benn, Jess Phillips etc would be a shift from the new dictatorial gamesmanship and a return to statesmanship.

This would be a start of restoring domestic and international respect, integrity, consensus, debate and respect for due process.

MrsTerryPratchett · 10/09/2019 05:52

Why on earth do people assume that if you dislike the utter fuckwits driving the country off a cliff you must luuuuuurve Corbyn?

They might be a slightly less shit option. Just slightly, mind.

I'd like principled, honest, experienced, educated not at bloody Eton, ethical representatives. That is massively too much to ask though. So I will take anyone else. Even Corbyn. I'll hold my nose.

This will have been written by some very tired junior civil servants.

shearwater · 10/09/2019 06:03

The same civil servants that would be there whichever government was in power, although if the coaltion and then conservative government hadn't being so ideologically wed to austerity and cut numbers massively then their civil servants might not be so knackered and could spot obvious errors.

Cittadina · 10/09/2019 06:03

Frankly I would very much welcome a labour government after this one has proved without a doubt its being ineffectual. Your Ill-informed comment Mystery are actually convincing me more and more about that. So thank you for helping me cement my convictions.

bellinisurge · 10/09/2019 06:08

@shearwater is right.

Because they have no other arguments and can only do 'what aboutery'.

My eyesight is poor so at first glance I thought the post read:

what adultery

Hahaha

MangoesAreMyFavourite · 11/09/2019 13:02

I thought the official line was that prerogation was nothing to do with brexit.
If this was the case, why was it mentioned as a justification?
Also the comments on the election.

The answer from the govt didn't make much sense to me. It had a defiant 'so there' ring to it, iykwim.

MockersthefeMANist · 11/09/2019 13:43

Prorogation (sic) is done by an Order in Council made by the Privvy Council acting with the authority of the Royal Prerogative (sic).

MrsTerryPratchett · 11/09/2019 14:24

It very much did. It had a different tone to it than other responses to petitions.

Totally agree lonelyplanetmum you vote for the whole party not just individuals. IMHO Labour has a lot of talent namely Keir Starmer, John Mcdonnell, Stephen Kinnock, Emily Thornberry and Shami Chakrabarti.

Are they not the same people who preach equality, but take big salaries, send children to public or select schools, etc.,.....
