On the Eve of the EU Elections that we never met to happen, and we don't know what the next hour next mind day might bring.

Farage is enjoying the theatre of milkshakes. It means he gets attention and gets to play the victim. And avoid talking about his dodgy friends and even dodgier financing. The Brexit Party are polling so highly its possible he could be PM. And boy does he know it. The temptation is there and its too much to resist.

May has refused to resign so far tonight after a day of asking her to. The 1922 Committee refused to change the rules to help oust her - possibly because they don't want the next PM to be beset with challenges to the leadership at the drop of a hat. Graham Brady is seeing her on Friday... The ERG are not happy bunnies.

May is still apparently planning to plough on with the WAB with a referendum possibly attached. Though this remains to be seen.

Meanwhile Leadsom has just quit the Cabinet. She was one of the Brexit 'Pizza Club'. Rumours are this might be the Cabinet withdrawing support for her. Though Gove has said he doesn't intend to resign (tonight at least).

Rumour is that May's senior staff have abandoned her to let her make the decision to go. And rumours are that when Leadsom rang May to tell her she was leaving cabinet, May didn't tell her senior staff. This comes two weeks after rumours where that Phillip May was at the point of telling her it was time to resign. The rumours of course may be just that, rumours but it's hard to see how or why anyone would tell her to carry on now.

And so tomorrow. Who would vote for this utter shower of shit? Even if you were the most loyal of Tories?

The thing tomorrow is to get the remain vote out. It doesn't matter ultimately what people vote for. Every vote cast for remain keeps the Brexit Party popular vote down. Even if it doesn't win seats. And that is psychologically important.

Tomorrow make sure EVERYONE you know who is anti brexit party votes. More so if they are a Remainer voting for a Remain party, but also if they are solid Labour or the rarest of things, a true blue.

It MATTERS. Narratives will be set.

If you are not sure if you are registered to vote, please TRY ANYWAY. The worst case is you are turned away and have lost 20 mins of your life. But you might also be able to vote and that might change the course of events.

Talk to people tomorrow. Remind them. Make sure it's about preventing a hard right foothold. Apathy will destroy our futures. Being fed up of politicians so refusing to vote is actively shooting yourself in the face.

Who am I voting for?

Still no idea. But I will vote.

I think myself Remainers are likely to be out in strong Remain areas, and Leavers in the Leave areas.

I think the results will be interesting - I think it will show a split in the country. I was tempted to say that the South East might show a strong Remain showing, but then I am aware that I am in something of a Remain bubble and there are large swathes of the South East which used to be true blue Tory Leavers. Now whether they will stay at home, or whether they will go out and vote for Farage, because he tells it like it is, blah, blah, is anyone's guess.

frumpety · 23/05/2019 19:40

Took DH to vote, he told me this morning he didn't have a polling card, ta da oh yes you do ! I have made sure he is on the electoral role ever since we moved in together, he forgets that whilst I may not be the most organised person in the world, there are certain things I never forget. Smile

Peregrina · 23/05/2019 19:43

We have a lot more postal votes now than we used to have, which is an effective equivalent to voting beforehand in Libraries etc.

GeistohneGrenzen · 23/05/2019 19:47

pmk

ContinuityError · 23/05/2019 19:49

Our local council election office were helpful last week when our postal votes still hadn’t arrived - we’d had polling cards, then letters to confirm postal votes and then a card to say postal votes were being sent out a week previously. I rang on the Wednesday and they confirmed that postal votes had been posted out on the Monday but if they hadn’t arrived the following day to call back and they would work something out. Fortunately they arrived in time (about 3 hours before we left for the airport).

They had also been very helpful getting student DS registered as we had to supply passport details and I’d had to dig out his Irish one (it was probably the same helpful lady each time).

I had heard on R4 that they would normally start planning in January and the very late notice was proving challenging.

icannotremember · 23/05/2019 19:54

DH is Polish and refused to vote here on the basis that they would fuck it up and disenfranchise him somehow (guess he's sadly being proved right).

WhatWouldScoobyDoo · 23/05/2019 19:58

Quite busy at our very remainy area’s polling station, ballot box stuffed full.

A bit of a grim atmosphere though?

SusanWalker · 23/05/2019 20:00

Polling station was empty when I voted this morning, but two people were going in as I left.

Went to join Weight watchers this evening which was next to a different polling station and quite a few people going in. I was trying to send them subliminal vote lib dems messages.

borntobequiet · 23/05/2019 20:02

Normally busy at my village polling station at 6 pm when I voted (Leave area in general but some Remain villages and some Leave due to the demographic, and possibly history...might be fascinating topic for research).

Peregrina · 23/05/2019 20:02

Our ballot box seemed pretty full by lunchtime when I went up, but with the size of the ballot paper that was no surprise.

ClashCityRocker · 23/05/2019 20:02

Dh and I had postal votes as we were unsure if we'd be in the area at the time but I walked passed our local polling station today at about half five and there were a few people milling about.

ContinuityError · 23/05/2019 20:03

I was trying to send them subliminal vote lib dems messages.

Please tell me you were jumping up and down in a bright yellow “Bollocks to Brexit” t-shirt?

TheABC · 23/05/2019 20:04

Voted. We went in at 6:30pm and it was busy. Urban West Midlands - it's a solid Labour ward normally so I have no idea which way it will go.

HazardGhost · 23/05/2019 20:06

Just read a thread about people spoiling votes...I've come here to calm down!

I get the inclination to I really do BUT to do it at this vote when with the BP predictions as they stand is cuntish. Yeah people think women's rights are under threat but have they met the far right? Do they not know who these people are? Shall I invite the ballot spoilers to my family reunion Grin

Meanwhile DP is asleep because he used up all his energy to get dressed and vote because he knows it's important. He's exhausted. But he was happy he went along and did his bit.

borntobequiet · 23/05/2019 20:07

SusanI’m keen on subliminal messages too, mostly for weird drivers in front of me “Turn left! You know you want to go to Basingstoke!” Just stop driving in front of me at 40 mph when it’s national speed limit, or worse, speeding up and slowing down FOR NO APPARENT REASON.

blibblibs · 23/05/2019 20:10

Just got back from voting, small village in Yorkshire and the Humber and there were 34 people on the clerks list, 36 after DH & I voted (LD & Green).
I'm hoping that wasn't the only page he'd filled in today.

Coquillage · 23/05/2019 20:10

'Yeah people think women's rights are under threat but have they met the far right? Do they not know who these people are?'

Absolutely.

Icantreachthepretzels · 23/05/2019 20:13

I know there won't be any exit polls - but will there at least be a announcement of turnout? Or did we make that illegal as well?

SusanWalker · 23/05/2019 20:16

There was an interesting piece on BBC news channel last night on the far right and women's rights. Talking about nova in Spain who think domestic violence should be a private matter between a man and his wife. Also Salvini talking about 'proper ' families with a mummy and a daddy. And obviously restrictions on abortion.

I also heard a piece on radio 4 a while back about AFD and their propaganda insinuating that white women need protecting from muslims.

SusanWalker · 23/05/2019 20:18

I really wish I had been jumping up and down in a bollocks to brexit t shirt now.

I might do that at the general election. I have a feeling we might have one soon.

Peregrina · 23/05/2019 20:20

Rather a spoilt ballot than one for Farage is what I thought.

UK government may face court action after EU citizens denied vote

David Allen Green@davidallengreen
By 9am that something was very wrong was already obvious.

The failure was systemic. It does not matter if deliberate or inadvertent, it was no doubt avoidable.

And it was just allowed to happen.

Systemic disenfranchisement for a major election, in the UK in 2019.

Ahh. Good to know, May has managed to screw up another thing.

Public inquiry. Legal action. Fun.

SusanWalker you’d need one of those little portable exercise trampoline thingies for maximum impact (and a bloody good bra for minimal impact).

Loathsome's replacement is interesting ....
(or could it be that May is running out of MPs who haven't resigned / been sacked )

Tom Newton Dunn@tnewtondunn

Mel Stride is the new Leader of the Commons.

Controversially, a Remainer replacing a Leaver, but very well thought of by MPs.

Also Gove's leadership campaign manager... which makes it an even more interesting hire. < very >
