Who to vote for? I think it's a choice of LD or Green. I don't like either for their stance on women and trans issues but brexit is more important now.
Is one more likely to secure a seat than the other and therefore my vote would be better going to them?

I've read conflicting things and want my vote to count and be of use in hopefully halting brexit.

Latest info on Gina Millers website Remain United

www.remainunited.org

It's Lib Dem for North West.

I saw Green mentioned on another site, but some were questioning who was behind it.

At least it's clear who is behind Remain United.

NoBaggyPants · 22/05/2019 18:31

Does Gina Miller have your best interests at heart? She's a multimillionaire, does she share the same priorities and concerns as you?

If you want to vote for one of the two, go for the Greens. The Lib Dems cannot be trusted, you only need to look at their history to know that.

howwudufeel · 22/05/2019 18:32

Labour. Any other vote will let the fascist win.

1tisILeClerc · 22/05/2019 18:54

Labour are still umming and ahing about leaving.
Remain needs to be either LD or Green I think.

{She's a multimillionaire, does she share the same priorities and concerns as you?}
Just because she is a millionaire does not automatically mean she is not on 'your side'.

howwudufeel · 22/05/2019 19:23

The UK can’t remain though. The vote has already taken place. We have to respect the decision. There is a risk however that the fascist will win.

ritzbiscuits · 22/05/2019 19:35

I'd have Gina Miller over Farage any day. She does clearly stand for remain, so I understand what her motives are for this website.

Personally, in looking at the remain parties available, I will not vote for 'non-men' greens! Bollocks to Brexit sums up my feeling at the moment. I also want to send a clear message to Labour that they aren't currently representing me.

Like many I am not becoming a Lib Dem supporter, just solely voting tactically in this election.

If for some strange reason you decide to drive fast towards a brick wall, then your passenger asks whether it is wise and points out that you will probably both be killed, do you just put your foot down harder, or do you reconsider and stop safely?

Since the original referendum was 'advisory' and mired in lies and influences from outside the UK it is not unreasonable to revoke.
So far even the government's own figures show the UK will be financially buggered, so is leaving really the best way to go?
Democracy becomes undemocratic if you can't change your mind.

Motherof3feminists · 22/05/2019 19:44

@ritzbiscuits that's how I feel too although I have no idea who Gina is.

I'm not getting into "respecting the referendum result" and "we have to leave" as that's not what I was asking

I'm North West as well. We are voting Green. I'm afraid I just can't bring myself to vote LD.

1tisILeClerc · 22/05/2019 19:52

You have to remember that this election is for electing MEPs who IF the UK were to remain in the EU would represent UK interests.
In a way it is the 'attitude' of the individual candidates as opposed to their party that would ultimately count. Thus a Tory who is constructive and 'pro Europe' might ultimately be better than a Labour or whichever 'anti Europe', but for the sake of clarity at this point it is better to vote for an outwardly 'remain' party, LD or Green.

Fishlegs · 22/05/2019 19:52

I’m voting Green in the North West.
I can’t face voting Labour or LD.

ritzbiscuits · 22/05/2019 20:00

@Motherof3feminists She championed a test case that meant that Teresa May couldn't exit the EU with 'royal prerogative' and it had to go via parliamentary vote/approval.

The remain voter website recommends Green for North-West

WiseUpJanetWeiss · 23/05/2019 07:23

The idea behind the remain voter recommendation appears to be that from polling results so far the LDs appear to be very likely to secure a seat in the NW. Therefore anyone who is thinking of switching from a Leave party to a Remain party (and anyone who was intending to vote TIG) should vote Green in the hope that Remain secures a second seat in the NW.

I don’t entirely trust this logic, but that’s what it’s about. They claim to have done a great deal of statistical analysis, but they are also being criticised for dubious statistical analysis. I’m not good at stats so I don’t have a view. I still haven’t decided what to vote, but I’ll definitely vote for a Remain party.

InTheEndgameNow · 23/05/2019 07:27

Chris Davies is the number 1 Lib Dem nomination. He's a very experienced MEP / former MP who has done a lot of work in the European parliament on climate change.

WiseUpJanetWeiss · 23/05/2019 07:34

Labour. Any other vote will let the fascist win

If you want to Leave the EU this is a rational choice. However, I want to remain, so I will choose a Remain party as a protest vote/proxy referendum.

Obviously I don’t want Farage and his bunch of racist IRA apologists to represent the UK in the European Parliament, but if we’re leaving the EU they won’t actually be doing that for long.

Our best chance of Remaining is to vote for Remain parties to take seats from the other Leave parties (Tory and Labour) and to maximise the Remain vote share.

AmberEars · 23/05/2019 07:37

This website explains it really well:
politics.co.uk

CheshireSplat · 23/05/2019 07:39

I've just read a UCL paper which explains the voting system (v interesting) but concludes that if you're in a region with 7 or more MEPs (like the NW) you can vote for your favourite remain party. I'll try and find it.

WiseUpJanetWeiss · 23/05/2019 07:44

Thanks Amber - really useful.
