Lo and behold, today the pound has shot to at an all time high since Brexit vote, encouraged by the possibility of remaining.

Yet more proof of the economic sense of remaining. How can Brexiters STILL argue their way isn't detrimental!!

I agree.

Pumpkintopf · 12/04/2019 20:30

I agree. It's deeply, deeply depressing.

DoNotBlameMeIVotedRemain · 13/04/2019 12:46

I agree too. It's a joke! Or it would be but it's not at all funny....

OhYouBadBadKitten · 13/04/2019 13:26

I agree too. Now might be a good time to get euros out actually for holidays, in case the market slips into despondency again

BuggaLugga · 13/04/2019 14:33

It was actually higher a couple of weeks ago, I got my euros then.

A strong pound is not always a good thing as imports become cheaper and exports more expensive. Better for the economy to be the other way round.

@leaveorremain

You’re right that there are winners and losers when the pound is strong, as there are when the pound is weak.

But it’s swings and roundabouts. There are positive economic factors from a strong pound as well as negative ones.

There are myriad factors which influence the economy. It’s not a simple as weak pound equals good economy, and strong pound means bad economy.

Mistigri · 16/04/2019 06:42

The pound hasn't shot up or down to anything.

Currently around €1.16 to the pound which is roughly where it's been for the last month. (It was over €1.40 before the referendum.)

LeaveOrRemain · 16/04/2019 09:30

And 10 years ago it hit a low of €1.07 to the pound. Long before referendums were on the horizon. Getting a bit too easy to blame Brexit for everything I think.

Monsoon and Accessorize struggling being blamed on Brexit by some. More likely to be attributable to the following:

Online shopping cheaper
Either no parking or silly price parking in City Centers.
Huge rents charged by local authorities.

It would help if they still had a few shops around. You can't buy if there are no shops. Not everyone wants to buy clothes online.

For clothes that may well be correct, but still does not change the high rents that shops have to pay and high parking costs.

My Mother is retired and for something to do she works as a volunteer in a charity shop in city center as do the others in same shop. No discounts from the council on the rent for being a charity shop. If shop takes less than 2K per week it will not break even!

So those that donate with the idea of helping those that are less fortunate than themselves are actually making the landlords/councils/local authorities more money!!!!
