If you are an EU citizen resident in the U.K. you can register to vote in the elections for the European Parliament. www.gov.uk/register-to-vote

EU citizens registered to vote in the UK (local elections, etc.) can choose where to vote. I have received letters in the past asking me where I wanted to vote for the European election.

I have now dual citizenship UK / Spain, but the situation is the same, Article of the 1976 Act (European Parliament Elections) is clear in the sense that no one may vote more than once in any election to the EP. Directive 93/109 specifically addresses the voting rights (the "choosing") of EU citizens residing in another member state. A parliamentary question in 2013 aligned the situation of dual citizens to this and recommended to take the same approach.

So, my problem is... I have always voted 'from' Spain for the EP elections. I have already been sent the application paperwork (if you live abroad you have to apply or re-register to vote every time there is an election) from Spain but this time I would like to vote from the UK.

However, if a deal is agreed before the European elections, we won't have them here in the UK. So, basically, if I don't apply to Spain before the end of the month I won't be able to vote 'from' Spain. If I decide to go for the UK option and we finally don't have the elections here I won't be able to vote at all, as no EP elections and the UK and not registered for the Spanish option.

What would you do? Choose Spain and I will be able to vote anyway, or UK and risk not being able to vote at all...

I would have really liked to vote from the UK...

I think the chances of a deal being agreed and the UK leaving before the EP elections is nil. Register in the UK :)

Don't forget voting in the local elections (if having them) as well. May is a busy month for voting.

@the3million
EU citizen resident in the U.K. If you want to vote in the UK you must:

Step 1: Register to vote by 7 May.

Step 2: Download and fill in the European Parliament voter registration form.
www.yourvotematters.co.uk/__data/assets/pdf_file/0011/255197/EU-citizen-European-Parliament-voter-registration-form-English.pdf
Step 3: Send the form to your local Electoral Registration Office by 7 May.
www.gov.uk/elections-in-the-uk/european-parliament …
If you fail to follow step 2 & 3, even if you are on the Electoral register, you will be turned away on election day.
This happened in 2014
www.theguardian.com/politics/2014/may/24/eu-citizens-prevented-voting-confusion-registration-forms
You are only allowed 1 vote: In your country of origin or in your country of residence.
Even if you completed steps 2& 3 in 2014 you have do again for this 2019 EU election.
If you are a citizen of the UK, Republic of Ireland, Malta or Cyprus, you are eligible to register to vote at all UK elections and so do not need to complete step 2&3.
If you are an Irish citizen living abroad, you cannot be entered on the Register of Electors and cannot vote in an election or referendum in Ireland(Irish Citizens living in the UK can only vote in the EU elections if we remain in the EU ).

Register to vote from the UK. There is zero chance of parliament agreeing anything before 23rd May. They've all buggered off on holiday till the 23rd April for a start ...
