Brexit

Visitors from the EU - anything to worry about?

So we have some friends from an[other] EU country due to visit us next week. Flying over. Does anyone know whether they're likely to encounter any problems, eg because they don't have any kind of visa? Assuming that No Deal Brexit goes ahead this Friday.

OP posts:

I think I heard that UK citizens will be able to travel Visa free within the EU, so if that's true, I'm sure the UK will reciprocate?

Apoiads · 08/04/2019 17:28

But I think the chance of a no deal Brexit is about 1%

If they arrive before the UK leaves then the only issue could be passport control going back to the EU,(UK end) but it is likely to be bedlam and they would be leaving so I would doubt any real problem.
There are 'technical' papers on the gov.uk website if you really want to read up on it.

If they have EU passports then apart from a slight risk of transport disruption I can't imagine there would be an issue.

No one really knows OP! But I don't envisage thousands of people being trapped on either side of the channel and unable to get home.

Brexit won't happen anyway.

I think keeping people 'hostage' in a country that isn't their own for any length of time would be unconscionable and so unlikely to happen.

Annoying, disruptive and time-consuming travel is possible.

DD is coming home next week.
We have told her to carry copies of all of her residence paperwork as proof of which country she currently lives in.

Your friends do need to make sure they have backup health insurance though just in case their EHIC cards become invalid during their stay.

We are in France and my student DD who has a chronic health condition wants to go and visit her grandma in the UK during the Easter holidays. I've advised her against travel until we know (hopefully Wednesday) whether her EHIC card will remain valid.

Talkin make sure your DD considers the health insurance situation, just in case.
