Posted this already on Westminstenders thread but as it's so fast moving thought worth posting again here.
Without a Deal make "Revoke Article 50" the default action.
There is now a grave danger that No Deal will happen simply through inaction. To avoid this catastrophic outcome, the default position must become not No Deal but a revocation of Article 50.

At this moment, many of my friends who voted to Remain would now vote to Leave as they are so disgusted with the whole thing. Casually overlooking democracy would not help that. I'm amazed at the arrogance that thinks this is ok

The arrogance has been in place since 23 June 2016.

Cottonwood · 08/04/2019 13:06

Kummer isn't that rather shooting themselves in the foot though?

This 'head stuck up arse' mentality is a big part of the problem. How democratic is it when a significant number of votes were won by targeted SM lies which had they not done so would have brought the overall result very close to equal. Then the fact that UK citizens 'abroad' who were entitled to vote were not included. Russia is a bit less subtle about it's democracy, putting opposition leaders in prison, is that what you want for the UK?

Why?

Is cheese one of your friends?

Read recently that we appear to chosen to commit suicide BUT can't agree on how best to kill ourselves

Yeah i saw that on one of the politics shows

I thought it was apt

havingtochangeusernameagain · 08/04/2019 14:18

When was that said?

The comment about not leaving suddenly without a deal was in the Leave Campaign's official literature. It has been linked to on here before.

havingtochangeusernameagain · 08/04/2019 14:23

No we don't elect Barnier and Juncker.

But other than the good people of Maidenhead or before them Witney, we don't elect our PM, either.

SilentSister · 08/04/2019 14:35

No axe to grind, but these petitions are meaningless unless you give people an alternative ie: a referendum, which could ask each individual whether they prefer No Deal, Parliaments Deal, or Revoke Article 50.

Personally, at this stage I would probably go for Revoke as Parliamentary Deal is a no mans land of compromise, to which no-one will be happy.

By the by, the NHS only employs 6% EU nationals from the total of 12% of Foreign nationals. We could actually do with more from Australia, Canada, South Africa, India, etc etc...... but we can't because of EU restraints. This is where I waiver on free movement for EU nationals only.

Tanith · 08/04/2019 14:42

"But other than the good people of Maidenhead or before them Witney, we don't elect our PM, either."

Or our Cabinet. No-one in their right mind would elect Chris Grayling to a position of responsibility.

SilentSister, can you provide reference for the EU restraints on non-EU foreign nationals working in UK/ EU?

This is something I am not aware of.

Just leaving this here

Doubt it, since it's bollocks ... non-EU immigration is devolved, it's up to the member state.

FishesaPlenty · 08/04/2019 17:44

Not 'devolved', it's never been anything to do with the EU.

lonelyplanetmum · 08/04/2019 18:33

The U.K. has always had complete control over non EU migration. Most non EU migration is a legacy of the much celebrated Empire.

( If there had been a need we could also have controlled EU migration.)
