Airport - post Brexit - do we now have to go through the NON-EU citizens queue?

Will be flying shortly, don't fly often so post Brexit, which queue should we go through? Are we still EU? As in European, or is it part of being in the EU?

It's guaranteed the vote will be rejected today. Labour won't vote for it, nor will the DUP from media reports I've heard this morning.

What time is the vote?

I know ive seen it but i really dont want to trawl back through the threads

3ish i think...

WhiskersOnCats · 29/03/2019 12:57

I thought the agreement was that if they got the WA through this week, they'd extend until May 22nd. If that doesn't happen, it's crashing out on April 12th.
So assuming the WA doesn't get through today, I thought it was pretty much guaranteed that April 12th is new d-day?

They've all been held in the evenings recently and haven't heard what time today's vote is - will keep a listen out.

Vote is at 2.30pm

WhiskersOnCats · 29/03/2019 13:01

Ok - vote is taking place in 90 minutes time - so 2.30pm I guess.

Just seen this by a BBC reporter on Twitter - Just seen Cabinet minister pointing finger in face of arch-brexiteer, in Commons corridor - 'you're not going to get no deal on the 12th, back it today or this place going to stop it - THAT'S YOUR CHOICE' he shouts - they both walk off shaking their heads

WhiskersOnCats · 29/03/2019 13:09

Iain Duncan Smith now saying that Customs Union will be imposed Monday if this vote fails. He's a Leaver. He says EU will give us a 2 year extension on April 12th. He doesn't want this, so from what I can gather, he is going to vote for the WA today.

It's like a game of poker here.

Barnier is talking about there being a no deal exit on 12 April. Not sure why the UK think that the EU is going to agree to their demands?

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 29/03/2019 13:12

Thank you parker _and whiskers

Dammit, I'll be at work then!

WhiskersOnCats · 29/03/2019 13:13

If you can check MN I can keep you posted if you like!

What they're all saying about what will happen is contradictory in most cases. Duncan smith is saying if WA not passed, Brexit will drag on and on. Others saying, if not passed, it weans we'll crash out.
They seem to be voting tactically rather than on the actual agreement.
Hard to make sense of.

I don't think the queue is just EU though. I think it covers EU and EEA, so it we leave the EU and join the EEA we would still be in that same queue.

It may be that, like Switzerland, we will have an agreement on that that then allows us to still use that queue and EU citizens to use that queue in this country.

It is all up in the air so no way to know yet, but since we have time for the withdrawal anyway, stick with the UK/EU/EEA queue for now or ask.

Hoppinggreen · 29/03/2019 13:27

What if the rest of your family have an EU passport but you don’t?
Will they ask DH where the dc’s other parent is? Should we all stay together?

Parker231 · 29/03/2019 13:31

I have a passport from Belgium. DH and DC’s have Canadian. In Europe and Canada we go through separate channels - never been a problem.

Jaxhog · 29/03/2019 13:35

I'm sure once we leave there will be a sign to tell you. Until then, just go in the queue you usually do.

Probably a good idea to get your passport renewed now if it has less than 6 months on it.

And if you renewed early last time. Effectively you only get 9.5 years even if was due to expire later in the year.

bellinisurge · 29/03/2019 16:20

Why would you stand in a queue that is for EU countries if we leave the EU?
How did you vote, op? What did you expect?

CatGoals · 29/03/2019 17:50

Lol @CatGoals**
Is it a case of burying your head in the sand and if you can't see it happening it ain't happening?

No need for the snark, @WhiskersOnCats as I actually voted to Leave. Hmm

But there is no chance Brexit is going to happen now.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 29/03/2019 20:32

I know its too oate whiskers but that was teally kind of you to offer

Thank you very much

floribunda18 · 29/03/2019 22:25

I did not vote leave, but am finding the barrage of sniping and gratuitous insults to be tiresome now - fully expect to get shouted at by not agreeing with every Remain antic on MN, especially when they tend to entrench division

And obviously completely lack a sense of humour.

ColdNeverBotheredMeAnyway · 30/03/2019 23:21

Well at stansted the non-eu queue is shorter than the eu one

Jesus christ.

I actually heard someone say that they voted leave "So that I can go in the shorter non-EU queue at the airport".

If anyone is in any doubt as to why this is absurd.... the EU queue is currently larger because all the Brits are using it. When we leave the EU... all the Brits will move to the non-EU queue and that will be much, much longer.

KennDodd · 30/03/2019 23:24

Frankly I think a longer queue at airports is the least of our worries.

ColdNeverBotheredMeAnyway · 30/03/2019 23:31

Absolutely

I think we should worry that people based their vote on the entirely absurdly peverse assumption that it would give them shorter queues at the airport... when in fact it won't.
