I'm well and truly fed up. Hate Brexit.
But interestingly its having a big impact on other aspects of my life. I do a fair ammount of volunteer stuff on top of my job. I'm at the stage of thinking about jacking it in. I'm not sure I can be bothered to do things for the benefit of others when I dont feel listened to as a member of society. I'm also self employed and worried about the impact of Brexit on my business so just thinking I wont bother anymore and I'll focus on ensuring my business survives.

I do not see why you should link Brexit with your volunteering. No individual has a voice. Never has and never will. It is not how representative democracy works. Try reading a text book on our political system.

You would probably miss your volunteering and the people you see. It woud be a shame to give that up because you do not feel the system of government here is not what you would want. Seems a bit extreme and that you are volunteering for the wrong reasons. Surely volunteeringis about what you give. It is should not really be used a s pawn for your frustrations.

I wondered if you could elaborate on that part, please?

bubblebuddy I did politics a level thanks. Actually areas that feel like they have no voice have low social capital. And therefore low volunteering and low voting. I get it because that's how I feel now.
I live in an area where lots of people voted leave. I get everyone is entitled to their view. The thing I volunteer have a benefit for the area i live in and no benefit for me. I do it because I enjoy feeling like I make a difference for my fellow neighbours. It's becoming harder and harder work to garner the enthusiasm. What keeps me there is guilt. If I stop one thing in particular will largely fold.

My work relies on people buying my services. I'm good at what I do. After the referendum I lost a big contract as all spending was put on hold. It was like a re run of the recession. Several of my contemporaries went out of business. I'm very concerned that a similar situation is now starting to happen again

I think it's very human to feel less enthusiastic about helping people because you think they voted to harm you. I'm not saying it's the right way to feel, but it's understandable.

I don't feel very charitable towards leavers either, because they have harmed me (Briton in Europe). I hope I'd be big enough to put that aside if it came to it, but I can't guarantee it.

I'll probably carry on. The enthusiasm is waining. One thing is on an evening with a break in the middle where a large group spend all that time talking about Brexit.
