Thoughts - will private school be quite vulnerable after brexit?

The only thing that will effect it is if we get a Labour government

State schools are struggling to balance budgets, they won't be able to afford to pay for a batch of new teachers. There will also be a delay before they get funding for all the new pupils joining, if private schools close. In the short term it could certainly have a detrimental impact on state schools

DC is the MN term. Doesn't need to be edgy or street, it's just the term that belongs to this community. Shared language binds communities together..

And I use it myself. I’m just pointing out that claiming not to be able to have a rational conversation with someone because they use a term you deem ‘twee’ makes that person sound like a twat.

@Colourpencils I'm a teacher. In a state school. I own a Ford Focus which is probably older than your gran.

You're the one who said you were so sickened by the term 'little ones' that you couldn't bear to stay on the thread. Maybe I interpreted that wrong.

Doesn't DC stand for 'darling children'? Sure that's got to be a bit twee also?

I wasn't being totally serious and certainly not sickened by the term, I just think it's sickly. DC is a bland abbreviation which I would use as millions of others on here do. I was joking about not discussing the topic.

Colourpencils · 18/03/2019 21:16

Maybe the 'darling' in DC is tongue in cheek?! or is it dear...

Colourpencils · 18/03/2019 21:19

FWITW I don't think Brexit will affect children (see what I did there) going to private schools as sadly most of the people who will be hardest affected by Brexit probably aren't in a position to send their children to one.

chocolateroses · 18/03/2019 21:20

@ineedaholidaynow I was worried about this. I do wonder if class sizes would then have to go up even more and imagine the extra workload that would follow.

chocolateroses · 18/03/2019 21:35

@Colourpencils I probably should have been able to work that one out Blush

Sorry I was mean, I'm just a grumpy old moo x

I have friends who are lawyers/accountants/doctors/nurses/business owners who send their Dcs to private schools, none seem worried their jobs will change after Brexit.

Well doctors might not be, but there are plenty of worried lawyers out there. Recessions are not good for lawyers. I speak from a two lawyer worried household with two DC in private school. You're right though that most of the parents at our school are doctors and they're not bothered in the slightest. - jobs for life
