@SonEtLumiere Dear Mother this time!

Not sure I know what you mean?

bellinisurge · 06/03/2019 11:46

Obviously if the UK was doing it it would be even faster than it is now, more efficient generally and more wrong 'uns would be caught. HmmConfused

It's funny how these things aren't making the news, bit like the 22km queue at at Eurotunnel this week due to French customs strikes in protest at lack of enough staff for Brexit No Deal.

cloudymelonade · 06/03/2019 13:33

@SonEtLumiere ah yes, that makes more sense.
It's such a head shakey situation at this point I'm worried mine may actually fall off.

{bit like the 22km queue at at Eurotunnel this week due to French customs strikes in protest at lack of enough staff for Brexit No Deal}

They were working to rule, I believe, not on strike.
A bit like 'try before you buy' so that the UK can get an idea of what the balls up of Brexit will look like when they have to implement all the rules in just over 3 weeks time.

BlackeyedGruesome · 06/03/2019 18:09

It has been on the news now, though not a big focus, more of an aside

BlackeyedGruesome · 06/03/2019 18:10

Just come on again as I pressed post!

BlackeyedGruesome · 06/03/2019 18:12

Long lorry queues, 15 miles, 5 or 6 hours. Expected to last all week. So that leaves a couple of weeks of no disruption before back to the real thing...

1tisILeClerc · 06/03/2019 18:25

{Expected to last all week. So that leaves a couple of weeks of no disruption before back to the real thing}
They are only toying with it at the moment. Leaving with no deal will step it up drastically. It will be more noticeable when the lorries start backing up in the UK too.

BlackeyedGruesome · 06/03/2019 18:30

I hope that people will think about the effect of the strike before it is too late to prevent no deal.

BlackeyedGruesome · 06/03/2019 18:32

The last thing we need is delays to food deliveries just before Brexit when people want to get stocked up on fresh vegetables. Fuck.

1tisILeClerc · 06/03/2019 18:33

It's not exactly a strike. They are doing what will be necessary when new regulations come in. The UK could help by putting it's hand in it's pocket to fund more security equipment and staff. It is the UK causing all this grief after all.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 06/03/2019 20:17

I've been reading up a bit more and you're right, it's work to rule.

1tisILeClerc · 06/03/2019 21:39

I went through a Spanish airport a year ago and they had a 'special' team of customs officers using quills and ink to write out the details of all passengers, rather than fancy electronic passport readers. I think they were making a point then. There was nearly a riot as a few hundred Spanish OAPs 'rushed' the passport booths!

Peregrina · 06/03/2019 21:52

How about if Eurostar advertises for Leavers to take part in a project, and then sends them off to France, and allows them to queue for the requisite 3, 4, or 5 hours to get back.

This is what they wanted - to control our borders, (but only to keep those pesky foreigners out, not to inconvenience them.)

BlackeyedGruesome · 06/03/2019 22:21

Oh you are bad peregrina. Grin

But yes, control of borders...

Was 15 miles last I heard at 8pm.

Been busy with children since then and missed headlines.

While it sounds an interesting idea, I think international relations would break down completely if you dump a load of grumpy leavers in France.

Give 'em a yellow vest, no-one will notice. Wink
