Delay until 2021?

Any of you, much more clever than me, people have any idea how likely this might be? Seems unlikely from my POV, May is just so bloody obstinate.

Delay until 2021?

I thought she'd currently said no?

1tisILeClerc · 24/02/2019 18:14

It's an EU 'offer' not that it will necessarily be taken up.

onalongsabbatical · 24/02/2019 18:18

Who chuffing knows? Anything at all?
She's put the meaningful vote off again. The woman's bonkers and utterly impervious to anything.

Parker231 · 24/02/2019 18:31

European elections will get in the way so can’t see it happening.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 24/02/2019 19:22

who knows.

Littlespaces · 24/02/2019 19:34

No idea at all. This might help explain what is going on (or not)

I thought she was supposed to be a remainer!

Littlespaces · 24/02/2019 19:38

She did vote remain but believes with religious fervour that she must implement the People's will even if it causes terrible harm to those people. Madness.

SisterOfDonFrancisco · 24/02/2019 19:39

I'm in two minds. On the other hand extension would be good as it would mean possibly more time for negotiating a better withdrawal agreement or at least planning for any eventuality. Then again if it's the same people negotiating there'd be no hope of that happening. More uncertainty for the businesses. More money wasted on project brexit.

bellinisurge · 24/02/2019 19:51

I think they are messing with her OR they are trying to play along with her WA or nothing approach by "threatening " something nobody wants.
Interesting tactic.

1tisILeClerc · 24/02/2019 21:34

SisterOfDonFrancisco
The Withdrawal Agreement only has 3 items actually agreed, The departure bill (specified for the particular date which would probably change), Citizens rights, and the backstop. The remainder is a very comprehensive plan for what and how the UK should separate from the EU but is a working document rather than a defined outcome. Once it is signed the EU would be happy to discuss as necessary.

Parker231 · 24/02/2019 22:14

Sounds a waste of time - the EU have said repeatedly that they won’t renegotiate - why would they? They are never going to give the UK better or equal terms than enjoyed by the remaining members and Theresa May can’t concede anything or parliament won’t approve it and she’ll breach the GFA.

MrsTerryPratcett · 25/02/2019 14:05

They are never going to give the UK better or equal terms than enjoyed by the remaining members and Theresa May can’t concede anything or parliament won’t approve it and she’ll breach the GFA.

And there's the rub. It's impossible to deliver.

Tanith · 25/02/2019 16:41

“European elections will get in the way so can’t see it happening.”

I wonder if the European elections are the EU’s way of securing a People’s Vote in the event that a 2nd referendum is frustrated.

Will we be allowed to vote, does anyone know?

jasjas1973 · 25/02/2019 17:20

There could be a delay but it wont be for 21months, which if agreed could also inc talks on the future trade relationship.

May will never allow it.

She did vote remain
Like fuck she did, her entire behavior since the referendum has been that of a hardcore Brexitier, not a bone thrown to the remainers in her party or the country.

Girlundercover · 25/02/2019 17:25

Maybe the EU are thinking if they float a 21 month extension it will put the frightners on the ERG to vote for Mays deal and be shut of the UK once and for all at the end of March.

A delay of 21 months could well lead to a reversal of Brexit.

TrojanWhore · 25/02/2019 17:27

Two more years of pre-Brexit wrangling?

Fuck tha for a game of soldiers

Two more years of pre-Brexit wrangling?

Eek! Shock Shock

SciFiRules · 26/02/2019 17:36

Let's hope it does lead to a reversal of Brexit!

havingtochangeusernameagain · 26/02/2019 17:37

I think she voted remain for economic reasons but with a heavy heart as she hates immigration.

I would be delighted if Brexit were delayed for two years. Yes it increases and extends uncertainty but a lot more people will get their residency rights.

larrygrylls · 26/02/2019 17:44

Brexit looking very unlikely to me now. Breakaway group has already forced Corbyn into backing another referendum.

And if stay win, will we be able to rejoin under the same terms? And, if not, will we need a third referendum?!

FishesaPlenty · 26/02/2019 17:47

if stay win, will we be able to rejoin under the same terms?

If we 'stay' then it's not a matter of rejoining - we've not left. Terms of membership remain the same.

1tisILeClerc · 26/02/2019 17:50

{Two more years of pre-Brexit wrangling?

Fuck that for a game of soldiers}

For anything that is not 'revoke' the 'wrangling' hasn't started yet.
29 March or whenever the departure is defined, the wrangling will begin and take a minimum of 2 or 3 years, and as it will require new trade deals to be set up, realistically 7 years or more. The EU trade deal with Japan took around 10 years.

Yaralie · 26/02/2019 18:21

Bin brexit NOW.
