Brexit

Should I buy euros now if I'm hoping to go away in Summer?

And are flight prices likely to go up if Brexit happens?

It's not a bad idea. If the value of the pound drops further you'll be pleased you have some Euro tucked away.

I use a Transferwise borderless account for stashing small amounts of different currencies. It comes with a debit card too (if you don't want cash lying down)

*lying around

I've done some now but will do some after. Holiday in June.
Nobody can succeed at currency speculation unless they have loads of money and losing doesn't matter to them.

If it is a soft Brexit the pound will PROBABLY go up as the markets have already built in some of the current desperation. Hence a small bounce if there is two years of stability.

If it is No Deal it will go down, POSSIBLY a long way.

If it is Revoke (unlikely) then the pound will PROBABLY go up a lot as that will be the best news for the economy & jobs.

Maybe hedge your bets? Some now and some later.

Martin Lewis has written a blog on this. He makes it very clear that nobody can predict what will happen so he won’t advise. The only advice he gives is to get half you money now and half later to get a balance.

Given the state of Italy atm I'd hedge my bets on a slight hit on a weaker pound in the summer.
Euro could be in far more trouble

That advice seems really sensible.

At the moment you can get 113 euro to the pound. This is similar to last year and higher than year before. I don't think it will change much either way.

Littlespaces · 18/02/2019 19:22

It probably would with 'No Deal'!

The day before the referendum results you could get 130. Nothing has changed since then so it's stayed at the depressing 110 - 114.

Why would you think it will stay that way after March 29?
