Brexit

My Brexit travel costs.

I recently bought tickets to see the Laver Cup in September. So far these are the extra Brexit costs.

  1. Fall in the value of the pound - don't even want to calculate this.

  2. Ticket delivery is in June - I'm being charged 17.90 SF for International Delivery rather than the 5 SF rate for EU countries.

  3. Just checked for a travel insurance quote. 5 days in Switzerland will cost £22 - last year had two weeks in Italy for £15. Presumably down to uncertainty over the EHIC card?

Is this what Brexit will be for most of us? Just lots and lots of extra little costs and inconveniences? Given the cost of the trip these extra expenses are pretty small and no doubt I'll get a load of replies saying sovereignty is worth more than money. Just wish people could name some real practical benefits that might compensate for these extra costs.

This is just the tip of the iceberg. Welcome to the post Brexit world.

Is the EHIC valid in Switzerland? It's an EFTA country not an EU one, so the insurance might have been higher anyway.

Yes, I think there will be a LOT of small costs, both for people in Britain and for people still in the EU who have a lot of interaction with Britain (like here in Ireland).

Don't forget to add your roaming charges.

One day, you'll have a blue passport you could always have had.

HPFA · 11/02/2019 13:50

EHIC is valid in Switzerland - although it could be medical costs in general are higher.

I actually still have my old blue passport - with horrifying evidence thta I once wore Deidre Barlow glasses.

What is an SF? The Swiss currency is CHF Hmm

But not everywhere, especically in remote areas - we had no joy with ours in Kandersteg a few years ago, as the only doctor in the village was 100% private.

I assumed it stood for Swiss Franc. It's what Ticketcorner used anyway.

Check your passport too, you'll need at least 6 months left on it if we leave with a no deal.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 11/02/2019 15:49

Are you going to be driving over there?

HPFA · 12/02/2019 06:57

Not driving, Eurostar and Paris to Geneva. No doubt a whole load of extra costs and hassle.

At least you won't need an IDP then.
