I think this is the way forward with politics because party politics is dead!

LucheroTena · 08/02/2019 22:41

Not bad. It’s a perfect time for the sensible ones from all parties to form a new party. I’ve never known a time where more people feel politically homeless

Grinchly · 08/02/2019 22:47

That's the frustrating thing though isn't it!

There are people of talent, wisdom, experience and conscience on all sides in there but the whole system is hamstrung - meanwhile a national catastrophe of epic proportions is silently and rapidly creeping up on us.

OP posts:
OhYouBadBadKitten · 08/02/2019 22:55

That looks pretty good to me!

Tr1skel1on · 08/02/2019 23:21

Looks good to me, I'd certainly vote for that

Tr1skel1on · 08/02/2019 23:23

Particularly like David Lammy as Home Sec, I think he'd make a really good job of it

Grinchly · 08/02/2019 23:29

Yep agree re Lammy. Seemed a perfect fit somehow Smile
They are all there.
The whole thing is insane

OP posts:
borntobequiet · 08/02/2019 23:37

Shame you’re not the Queen and could appoint them (well you prob couldn’t but you know what I mean).

OhYouBadBadKitten · 08/02/2019 23:49

Maybe we should write a joint email to them all suggesting this! (if only it could work)

Caucasianchalkcircles · 09/02/2019 00:00

Unfortunately some of those mentioned still belong to the nasty party and nice as they may be personally, all of them will have undoubtedly voted for austerity and cuts to benefits, etc !

LouiseCollins28 · 09/02/2019 02:58

lonelyplanetmum · 09/02/2019 06:47

Loving the cabinet suggestions from the OP especially:

•PM Yvette Cooper
•Home Sec David Lammy
•Attorney General Dominic Grieve
•Health Sarah Wollaston
•Environment Caroline Lucas

Also like Hilary Benn as Foreign Sec.

This won’t be popular with some - but as many of our domestic politicians have shown sheer crass incompetence I would like some international mentoring type appointments. Of course they would probably refuse but this is a fantasy ...How about Barack Obama in a sort of non executive director role? A bit like a senior consultant, special advisor to the PM (better than say Nick Timothy)?

In a similar vein how about a consultancy role for Donald Tusk too. He could also help with a non exec role starting with the Treasury. His experience when younger in growing the Polish economy by almost 20% in seven years was a record performance. This would be useful experience and lord knows we are going to need it.

jasjas1973 · 09/02/2019 07:55

Almost of of the names mentioned above (by all the PPs) are the exact same set of politicians who have helped get us to where we are now.
Leave or remain and they've completely fucked up what you wanted.

For Remainers - Most voted for the referendum, A50 and stood on manifestos supporting Brexit!!

Put your faith in most of this lot and you'll be disappointed.

prettybird · 09/02/2019 08:28

Definitely not Liar Carmichael for Scotland ShockAngry: the guy who admitted to lying and getting others to lie in order to impugn the First Minister during the 2015 GE Campaign and squeaked back in. Only got away with it on the technicality that the courts decreed that "People expect politicians to lie" Angry

At least he had to pay costs Grin

prettybird · 09/02/2019 08:31

Aah - hadn't noticed who had suggested Liar Carmichael (and also Goldsmith, Redwood and IDS for other roles) Hmm

lonelyplanetmum · 09/02/2019 09:46

Aah - I hadn't noticed who had suggested Liar Carmichael and also Goldsmith, Redwood and IDS for other roles...

Deadwood Redwood being mentioned always gets me.

The fact that anyone supports him ( even a family member) is nearly as astonishing as his knighthood.

Surely he would be used as a Minister of Disaster Capitalism? Or in an MP in a management training boot camp as an example of how not to act?

You could start in the case study of how MPs should not deal with the press using:

• Redwoods FT piece advising investors to take their money out of Britain and put it elsewhere.? Yes promoting Brexit by talking down the markets and encouraging capital to flee.

•Then you could use a video of him as Welsh Sec pretending to know the words to the Welsh national anthem.

•	Then telling people to buy non-existent British cars.

Then as an example of how not to curry favour with the public you could use his stance on badger culling and fox hunting. Also his voting against equal gay rights and allowing gay marriage. Then his voting EU nationals who have already lived in the UK and raised families having a right to remain. Plus his voting against raising welfare benefits in line with prices, but in favour of reducing tax for those earning over £150,000. Plus his voting against prevention of climate change. Jeez.

LouiseCollins28 · 09/02/2019 09:56

Thanks prettybird I’d forgotten about that case actually! Sec of State for Scotland was a pretty hard pick for me IMO. I wanted a Lib Dem in there somewhere and thought “it’s either him or Jo Swinson” in scottish seats. Turns out that isn’t right anyhow. The Scottish Torres and Labour members are pretty anonymous IMO. Maybe I’d swap him for her, not sure, though there is something about her manner I don’t really like.

Of course,I could have selected an SNP member but I didn’t really consider them because I’ve no wish to include in my cabinet people who wish to break up the UK.

Thinking about it though, maybe representatiion wise that was a bad move. I know little about many of the SNP cohort to be honest. Ian Blackfoot always seems to advocate strongly for Scotland whenever I see him speak or be interviewed so maybe him at Scotland and I also like the look of Carol Monaghan! Govt could always do with more people who know something about the sciences so maybe I’d subsitute Goldsmith at Environment or Truss at education in her favour.

MillytantForceit · 09/02/2019 10:21

Best PM We Don't Have by a mllion miles is

Dame Margaret A'Beckett

ChiaraRimini · 09/02/2019 10:24

Great idea OP. Can't agree with Shami Chakrabati after her whitewash of the Labour anti semitism enquiry sadly

ChiaraRimini · 09/02/2019 10:28

Great female cross party talent in Scotland. Ruth Davidson, Kezia Dugdale and Nicola Sturgeon all v appointable

ChiaraRimini · 09/02/2019 10:30

Didn't Margaret Beckett nominate Jezza for labour leader? Not sure that's forgivable ..

SunnySomer · 09/02/2019 10:35

Gove in the home office??? He wreaks havoc wherever he goes, so I’m not sure we could afford to have him there...

MillytantForceit · 09/02/2019 11:15

"Didn't Margaret Beckett nominate Jezza for labour leader?"

She did, because she thought the lefties should have a candidate or they'd never stop whinging. Rather like Cameron, she assumed the result was a foregone conclusion. She has repented many times since. Her recent comments have been characteristically magesterial from the Queen Mother of the Labour Party.

Grinchly · 09/02/2019 13:57

Ok, I've sacked Shami at Justice, and replaced with Margaret. Annoyed I forgot her
Love the Scot suggestions - where would they best fit?
Fantasy cab can have its first reshuffle!
Also love the idea of some sort of advisory panel. Barnier Tusk Weyand and Merkel for starters. Also Blair ( I know, I know) Obama and Ivan Rogers
Used to like Rory Stuart but have gone off him now he's gone rogue and someone said he was a poor constituency MP,which rather surprised me.

OP posts:
diplodocusinermine · 09/02/2019 14:07

Think we have to find a role for Mark Carney.
Shami Chakribati does not deserve a role.
Like pp I am becoming increasingly disappointed with Rory Stewart - I thought he was a bit of a renaissance man, but am rapidly changing my mind.
