Settlement status - EU Exit application - what would you do?

So, I have started my EU exit application with the new app. I paid my £62.50, called the number provided to understand what was needed, I am self employed, a tax payer and have been in this country in and off since 1989. I moved here again in 2014.
I called on the 21st of January to understand which documents were needed to apply for the "simple" settled status and the lady answering said that my DC going to school here did not prove my residence ( it proves only that DC was here) and that I had to file documentation that proved the length of time I have been here, something official. I asked whether a letter from my surgery would be enough and, after consulting with her supervisor she said yes. So, I paid to my local surgery a further £20 for a document stating that I have been registered from 1992 to now.
Application filed and nothing happens ( apart from a waiver of the application fees which I have already paid).
I have called the centre and they now say that a letter from the surgery is not preferred documentation and that I have to file in more documents ( which I have) but I cannot file them in until I receive a request from the case worker but we do not know when the case worker will look into it and what he/she will think because it is all at his/ her discretion.
I am now terrified that I will be rejected and that I will have to pay even more money to try to fight my case.
Some friends of mine did go through a lawyer spending around £3000 to get through it but frankly I am not in the position to cough up so much at the moment.
Should I start a parallel application for my DC and seek her through this?
I can only prove school days it would not give a settled status ( which I should get) but I am getting so so worried that we will not be granted to stay .
Advice please

Bloody ridiculous. Ask to speak to a manager and then ask for their response in writing. That sounds to me like bureaucratic chaos.
Do you have utility bills/council tax bill/ bank statement?

Oh, dear, panzotti, I’m so sorry to hear this. I’ve seen so many tales of this kind of thing I’m afraid, the system is not fit for purpose. There are groups on Facebook where you might get advice too – I expect you know that. Or in the last resort I’d contact the Guardian, they’ve publicised a number of cases and that often seems to magically make things happen.
But none of this should be happening.

Are you Italian? My father was Italian but I was born here. I hate this country today.
Sorry not to be able to help you. But solidarity and hugs and I hope it’s sorted ASAP.

One thing you should do is flag up your concerns and issues with your MP.

I'm sorry that you are having to go through this.

Have you got your application fees back?

You don't say how long you were out of the country before 2014 ... you might need to contact one of the support groups like the3million to get some advice on the criteria for settled status for people who have had breaks in residence

It is worth making sure you know where you stand, because from what you say I think it is possible that you will only be granted pre-settled status, which gives you fewer rights. However, it is possible to challenge the HO if they give you pre-settled when you think you are entitled to "full" settled status.

Anecdotally it seems that a significant number of people who are definitely entitled to settled status are being given pre-settled instead, especially if they don't have (for example) a continuous NI record.

What kind of self-employed work do you do, is it something that means you doing something physically for clients? Are you VAT-registered, or do you have post-office and other receipts for posting things?

I'm surprised anyone said a GP registration would suffice.

It's a big pile of proverbial. Sorry you're going thru this.
