Travelling two weeks post brexit...

I’m getting really mixed information on this.
Quite a lot of the information in the press and from official guidelines seems to suggest that planes will still be allowed to fly - even in the case of no deal brexit.
We will need six months on our passports but no visa.

The clock is running for us to pay the balance on our European break and we’ve booked flights / hotel separately so not ATOL protected. I’m worried my judgement is clouded by the fact I’ve been looking forward to this for over a year, in that I really really want to go.
However it would be devastating to lose all the money and not be able to go.

I suppose it’s still all unknown and up in the air. It’ll be a risk I suppose.

We could either just lose the flights and deposit money - about £1k - and then everything might be fine and we will wish we’d gone.
Or we could pay the balance and lose it all.
We could go and it’d be ok.
Or we could cancel and it could be chaos and we’d be glad.

Ffs. I can’t believe the government is so fucking useless.

Glad we’d cancelled by the way. Not glad it was chaos!

The EU have produced a list of plans that they will implement in the case of a 'no deal'. European planes can fly although the UK government might need to agree to them landing in the UK.
I think EU based insurance will be OK too. Try looking at the EU website for those details, there were 14 aspects covered.
Despite the craziness of the UK gov it is difficult to see them refusing to let European flights operate as retaliation the other way round would be catastrophic to the UK (as if it isn't bad enough).

Yes it seems that the government has already said that flights would be allowed to land in the event of a no deal.

I’m really torn between thinking it’ll be ok - albeit might be some disruption at passport control - and thinking it’s a total no go.

Where are you going?

It's a dilemma but I think I would probably go. I might look at the feasibility of an emergency back up option via the tunnel and rail depending on the final destination. If the flights are cancelled I think you would get your money back for those.

France.

Hard to see it being impossible to get into France as there are several transport options if planes are really disrupted. Worst case scenario you could get a ferry to Dunkerque then TGV to Paris, if it came to it (i don't think it will).

I wouldn't listen to what the government says. The EU commission said they'd allow flights to fly to the EU but not intra EU. It looks like BA (IAG) may not be allowed to fly in the EU uk.reuters.com/article/us-britain-eu-iag/brussels-casts-doubt-on-iags-no-deal-brexit-flight-plan-ft-idUKKCN1P22G6

I wouldn't be booking anything around Brexit and don't listen to the government, they're hopeless

On another note, if planes carry cargo into airports then this cargo will need customs checks. Just like around ports, you'll get lorry jams around airports.

Here's an explanation of flights and the EU..

That's not how it works at airports.

If you do book in the event of no deal you should check that you have at least six months remaining on your passports from date of travel. We have just realise that DCs passports will have to be renewed early for summer travel in the event of no deal 🙄
