So is anyone else watching the chaos from this drone & the airport being closed unfold wondering how the fuck we are going to deal with a ' No deal' Brexit?

Anyone bump?

BrexitDestruction · 20/12/2018 23:12

Yes, me. Doesn't take much to disrupt fragile systems, does it? Imagine how weak we will be after No Deal.

TokyoSushi · 20/12/2018 23:14

Yep, we can't deal with a drone, goodness knows how we'll deal with the inevitable no deal chaos.

DioneTheDiabolist · 20/12/2018 23:23

It's not just you. I had the exact same thought this afternoon.Xmas Shock

missesbiggens · 20/12/2018 23:24

I was wondering how long it would take for someone to link the drone with Brexit Biscuit

ChocolateStash · 20/12/2018 23:28

All those poor people stranded who have had their plans disrupted. It's a truly selfish act so close to Christmas.

brexitsmexit · 20/12/2018 23:30

Well it's not particularly the drone I'm linking with Brexit it's the ensuing chaos that I am linking with A no deal Brexit!

brexitsmexit · 20/12/2018 23:32

Chocolate I know! Those poor people! I am so sorry for them!

Marcipex · 20/12/2018 23:42

I don't understand why it can't be shot down. As there's nothing else in the air.

CashewNutsAndWine · 20/12/2018 23:46

We need 'Airwolf'! Ffs, is it one drone that's caused this mayhem?

CashewNutsAndWine · 20/12/2018 23:47

If so the whole world must be pissing themselves laughing at us Blush

Bearbehind · 20/12/2018 23:47

The thing I keep thinking is ‘when will the film come out’

Sad I know but you can just imagine ‘the day I shut gatwick’ at the cinemas.

DioneTheDiabolist · 21/12/2018 02:23

It the most efficient act of terrorism I have ever seen.

LonelyandTiredandLow · 21/12/2018 02:49

Indeed, it's got to be terrorism but they are controlling the panic. The worry is that pics of the drones are out and now everyone with a gripe will be knowledgeable about which device to get for max disruption. Did see someone link it to the IRA and the boarder issue on the other thread (tongue partly in cheek) as an Irish man was apparently removed from a flight. The sad thing is we aren't very popular from many angles atm so the culprit/s could have all manner of reasons.

endofthelinefinally · 21/12/2018 02:50

Marcipex
That has been explained very clearly on the other drone threads.
There is more than one drone.
The target is moving at 30mph in a random pattern.
The risk of wxplosives has not been ruled out.
Stray bullets near the runway would be a massive risk to planes taking off or landing.
There is no way of knowing where the bullets that miss would land and there are grounded planes full of fuel in close proximity.

CashewNutsAndWine · 21/12/2018 05:04

Ffs! What a shower of clowns are leading us in to a no deal brexit! Ffs everyone just laughing at our ineptitude!

Cherries101 · 21/12/2018 05:07

There are multiple drones. Someone seems to have hacked into ATC at Gatwick because the drones know exactly when to appear. The drones could be carrying explosives. This has been identified as a disruption attack and no other country would have handled it differently.

Maybe read something other than the Daily Mail from time to time eh.

Mistigri · 21/12/2018 07:30

It's taken the Brits 36 hours to partially "take back control" of an airport perimeter.

This really doesn't bode well for the preparedness of major infrastructure (but anyone posting on here knew that already).

Government silence on Gatwick is really concerning. More going on than we have been told, or just total Brexit overload leaving government and civil service without any spare resources?

endofthelinefinally · 21/12/2018 07:35

Brexit means that nobody is looking after NHS, education, social services, amongst many other things, so I guess nobody has given much thought to the disruption of airports by drones either.
The knock on effect is alarming given that people and planes are stuck as far away as Australia and NZ.

carltonscroop · 21/12/2018 07:39

No, not really.

This is shorter than a weather dislocation or effects of foreign strikes

I see this thread as a good example of confirmation bias

billysboy · 21/12/2018 07:39

I think the people that have had xmas " ruined " by not being able to go to Lapland need to get a bit of a grip and consider safety first

Mistigri · 21/12/2018 07:50

well, first world problems and all that, but I'd be pretty fucking pissed off too. People have a right to be angry.

Mistigri · 21/12/2018 07:58

This is shorter than a weather dislocation or effects of foreign strikes

Terrible argument. The government can't prevent or stop weather or foreign strikes. They should be capable of preventing or mitigating a drone attack on major infrastructure.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 21/12/2018 08:24

I agree with misti

I would be furious and upset, in the same way as i will be furious and upset if something goes wrong with my summer holiday

Modern society has many pieces of 'equipment' that are capable of multiple use. Every household has a kitchen knife that if you were carrying it on the street would risk you being arrested.
If someone is intent on causing damage or harm, there are infinite ways of doing this from being hit by a tin of beans to sophisticated remote controlled attacks. The US military can and do sit in an air conditioned bunker in Virginia while piloting a drone to kill individuals anywhere on the planet.
Unless it has now been reported who was behind these drones there are multiple options from ISIS demonstrating they are not far away, to any number of disgruntled countries. Of course capturing one of the drones would tell a great deal.
