Brexit

Who else thinks May is going to stay and we’re back to a complete impasse again?!

Everything is such a mess!

As predicted.

So, more of the same then. None of the opposition like May’s Withdrawal agreement, the DUP don’t like it, loads of the Tories don’t like it and the EU aren’t going to change it.

What next?

As it turns out I'm
Not beyond caring. Im livid. This utter shower of shit....(I felt better when I was numb to it but I've just been so badly annoyed by Rees mogg spouting shite on the tv that I want to kick something)

Bearbehind · 12/12/2018 21:19

The only pleasing thing from all this is JRM is going to have to crawl back down his hole.

SouthWestmom · 12/12/2018 21:26

Bit tragic she's had to promise she wouldn't stand after getting this shit bit through.

Talkinpeece · 12/12/2018 21:32

Dear TM
you cannot be challenged as leader for a year
cancel A50 tomorrow
please

Bearbehind · 12/12/2018 21:36

Totally agree talk

She should say there clearly isnt any room for further negiotiation and, as no one is happy with her deal, we’ll just scrap the whole thing.

Doubletrouble99 · 12/12/2018 22:13

I think we are just back to where we started when we first heard about the deal.

I just don't know how she thinks she will get it through the house.

I think the main problem with the WA is that the HoC haven't actually read it. They have probably glanced through a few pages and mentally switched off as soon as they see any sentences they don't like without appreciating that it is a fixed until 29 March, but then negotiable document. The WA reduces the risks of people dying but no one is prepared to look at it this way.
Of course it is not as good as 'revoke and remain, but the UK wants to leave and I have a feeling the EU want the UK to leave, but this is the best way to achieve it, particularly as the UK failed to come up with anything remotely possible.

lazysummer · 12/12/2018 23:20

Dis anyone else get a sense of deja vu (I can't do the accents) when she gave her winner's speech this evening? Delivering what the British people voted for (how does she know); bringing unity to the country; addressing people's real needs and listening to their concerns. It's what she says after any crisis, but never delivers. How can she when Brexit is the only item on the agenda?
I am a supporter of a People's Vote as the only way out- a general election would be a disaster with the current rabble- but No Deal is too much of a risk.

TheFairyAstronaut · 13/12/2018 01:40

Rees-Mogg had a face like a smacked arse after the vote.

I admire anyone who can do that.

And Andrew Neil and Laura K were absolutely choking on the result too.
Good good.

TheFairyAstronaut · 13/12/2018 01:56

Also, she said “that in her heart she would like to fight the 2022 election, but that she recognised the party did not want her to, and therefore it was not her intention to”.

There’s another way of reading that. Just that the next general election is not going to be in 2022. She’s telling them to get ready to fight an election.

From the European point of view there is not an impasse. The UK has 3 choices available and it has to make a conscious decision to prevent the choice number 1, no deal crash out not happen by default.
Of course if the UK WANTS to crash out then Mrs May can stay in bed for the evening of 29 March and watch a box set of something with her feet up. NO DEAL will happen.
IF the UK wants to transition out smoothly, get the WA signed off within the UK (the EU have already done their part).
As has been the case since the 2016 referendum, the UK has not got to grips with the mess it created.
Considering this is self inflicted, how confident would you be if a foreign power were to declare war on the UK?

1tisILeClerc · 13/12/2018 09:31

The EU has done all it is required to do for the period up to 29 March, it is time for the UK go get it's arse into gear.

jasjas1973 · 13/12/2018 11:19

Really can't see how her deal gets through, even with some tweaks to the WA.
The 117 MPs who voted against her aren't suddenly going to ride to her rescue, as a BBC correspondent said, its not just the backstop but (for ERG) the money too and it isn't really leaving the EU.
Labour/SNP wont either, so even if DUP came on board.....

I'd imagine the EU know this too and might wish to see what comes out of the mess in January ie PV or EFTA, they know full well no-deal is off the table, May will never agree to do that and she is now safe for the foreseeable future, so doesn't have to placate the ERG types now.

1tisILeClerc · 13/12/2018 12:00

Why should the EU tweak the WA just to please some in the UK?
That is an 'entitlist' view. If I go to the supermarket and tell the manager that the potatoes are too expensive, they will say, OK, leave them on the shelf, someone else will have them.
The UK had had 2 1/2 years to get a decent workable plan together and has failed miserably, why should anyone else HAVE to do something for the UK? Besides the UK is 'sovereign' don't you know, and won't be told what to do. In which case decide what the hell you want and get on with it.
