A TAAT but it was my thread anyway!

This is fascinating me and there’s potentially more hope than I can see.

On another thread we’ve been discussing the repercussions of Labour voting down whatever deal TM cobbles together, even if it includes remaining in the SM / a CU.

I think that pushes us to no deal but there’s another train of thought which is that it would lead to a GE or 2nd vote and that will lead to calling the whole thing off and Remaining.

So, do you think that if parliament votes against any deal TM agrees it is most likely to lead to:-

A) No deal
B) Remaining
C) Something else whatever that may be!

I just hope the EU stick to their principals, if they do, (imho) the UK will remain in the EU

That really is just wishful thinking.

Too many in the UK need to get the 'I'm entitled' mentality out of their system and in that respect the UK needs to leave.

jasjas1973 · 09/11/2018 11:58

Bear

As you ve explained up thread, there is no deal that will solve the NI issues without full SM and CU membership and that sort of deal will not get through cabinet.

Placating the DUP isn't working, they'll drop their support for May if she pushes this, the status quo is preferable to a border at British ports and of course their electorate voted to Remain.

Of course its odds on we'll leave but plenty of races are not won by the favourite.

Satsumaeater · 09/11/2018 16:42

A lot of the posts here are mixing up the withdrawal deal and a trade deal.

I think parliament will agree the withdrawal deal (if one is agreed). And it will be a fudge.

Then we get the transition period during which a trade deal needs to be agreed. Yeah right - like there's enough time. That's when the arguments really start over EEA, Canada plus, WTO rules only etc.

Racecardriver · 09/11/2018 16:45

@jasjas you ok hun?

Bearbehind · 09/11/2018 19:20

Isn’t it ridiculous that 2 and a half years after the referendum we still have no fucking idea what’s going to happen?

OP posts:
jasjas1973 · 09/11/2018 20:19

@Racecardriver

Is that you Joe? i'm fine but you and your brother seem a bit lost at mo, take care and look after your Dad, he is more confused than even you are.

Perhaps bro will be joining you soon in calling for a 2nd vote?

GCAcademic · 09/11/2018 20:23

How would a general election work? The Tories would never be able to agree a manifesto. I doubt Labour could either.

Racecardriver · 09/11/2018 20:27

Who is joe?

Racecardriver · 09/11/2018 20:29

Yeah, this referendum was ridiculously inconclusive but it’s inevitabke that people will be doing the whine we’re nit out until we are out thing I guess. If it had been a no vote then that would have been it. It’s exacerbated by both parties have been negotiating in bad faith

jasjas1973 · 09/11/2018 20:42

Racecardriver

UK didn't both to check out the rules of the negotiation, which is surprising considering a Brit drew them up!

But then again, when you start with a PM with a track record of fcuking a dead pig, followed by a racist PM, a brexit sec who doesn't turn up to EU meetings, replaced by one who has only just realised the importance of UK trade to the Port of Dover... what do you expect?

imho it will take 10 years plus for the UK to extract its self from the previous 45 years of EU rules and regs, in which time the damage to the UK economy will be immense and irrecoverable, after all that, we will be far worse off.

There is zero upside and its about time you took your blinkers off.

EthelHallowsBroomstick · 09/11/2018 20:50

Either No Deal 😨

OR

TM resigns and there is a GE. Possibly with a pro Remain Tory leader. The GE would prompt reconsideration of the whole thing in one way or another.

Bearbehind · 09/11/2018 21:01

I still don’t understand what a GE will achieve - Corbyn wants to leave the EU.

What part of that is not sinking in?

They’ve tried ousting him but he clung on.

He will not stand on a Remain ticket so we would be no further on.

OP posts:
Bearbehind · 09/11/2018 21:07

Your mate Corbyn isn’t playing ball jas

OP posts:
MoggyP · 09/11/2018 21:11

It'll lead to a 'no deal' hard exit.

Because both Tories and Corbyn will take us out.

This isn't a remainers dream, that somehow voting down a deal will mean we're not leaving, It just means we leave without a deal.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 09/11/2018 21:55

If only someone had told the British this 2 years ago. Oh wait...

jasjas1973 · 09/11/2018 21:59

Bear

But the Tories are! JJ won't be the last, no gov can govern with these sort of splits.

But lets see, very early days, you need to remember the old adage "A week is a long time in Politics" lol!

Its a high stake "game" and it ain't over yet.

Bearbehind · 10/11/2018 21:23

Corbyn is the gift that keeps on giving

OP posts:
jasjas1973 · 10/11/2018 21:30

He also wants to scrap Trident but cannot, so a 1st vote on the deal May brings back (if any) is Labour conference policy.

But yes Bear, he is starting to exhibit Raab/May levels of intelligence..... why on earth do we vote for these friggin arse holes?

Bearbehind · 10/11/2018 21:35

But yes Bear, he is starting to exhibit Raab/May levels of intelligence.....

He has never exhibited anything better.

why on earth do we vote for these friggin arse holes?

God only knows. Ain’t that just the problem. Our choices are pitiful.

OP posts:
GhostofFrankGrimes · 11/11/2018 08:28

Our choices are pitiful.

Yep, in 2010 and 2015 when people were happy to support austerity which has stoked so much anger in leave voting areas.

Imagine if Milliband's Labour had won in 2015, how different the country would look now. Reap what you sow.

Yaralie · 12/11/2018 19:24

I don't know what would be most ;likely to happen.

What should happen is for Parliament to vote to cancel brexit and for our country to Remain in the EU on the same excellent terms as we now enjoy.

If our MPs. most of whom believe that we should Remain, let us down, then we need a People's Vote with Remain on the ballot paper.

The people have to be properly informed and their views should not be distorted by malign foriegn influences - Putin, Rupert Murdoch, whoever. How that is ensured- I have no idea.
