Apparently we're close to reaching a deal, with an expected date of November 21st.
Do you think this is actually likely?

Shit deal or no deal isn't much to look forward to.

Heatherjayne1972 · 01/11/2018 06:26

We voted to leave the best deal we could possibly have
So anything else is going to be an absolute disaster whatever happens

Thanks leavers ( sarcasm)

Theworldisfullofgs · 01/11/2018 06:29

It's not going to be a good deal. Think they're hoping that if they leave it late enough the eu will accept anything. They could still reject and there will be no deal and all that entails.

It's shit.

Helmetbymidnight · 01/11/2018 07:20

The brexiteers have voted to make us worse off and with fewer rights. We don’t know how bad that will be yet though.

Funnily enough they don’t seem half so pleased with themselves as they did two years ago.

Tanith · 01/11/2018 07:43

I think it’s going to be like David Davis’ intensive, complicated reports that were so top secret they had to be written with invisible ink...

54321go · 01/11/2018 07:44

Whatever 'deal' is done with the EU it is GUARANTEED that it will be worse than what we had. Of the EU28 we had the most opt outs and concessions. The EU 'rules' state that no 'third country' will get as good a deal as members so logically ANYTHING will be worse.
The only question now is how much worse.
Of course the UK may do brilliantly outside the EU but there have been NO statements telling us of anything that is going to be better. Not one single thing.

dogrilla · 01/11/2018 07:49

@Helmet** they seem even more pleased! There's this awful manic belief that it's all going to be fine and work out ok. That the experts are scaremongering and the 'patriotic' leavers are the ones that really know what's going on... beyond depressing.

lonelyplanetmum · 01/11/2018 07:54

uk.reuters.com/article/uk-britain-eu-deal/britain-says-no-date-set-for-end-of-brexit-talks-after-raab-hints-at-november-deal-idUKKCN1N523Z

The letter from Raab mentioning 21 days hence was just misleading or misinterpreted. There is no set date for the discussions with the EU to conclude according to a ministry spokesperson.

The letter to the Committee on Exiting the European Union mentioned the 21st November date because that was when the elusive Raab was asked to give evidence. He's been refusing to go if you recall.

54321go · 01/11/2018 07:55

Yes the 'leavers' have won the lottery. Unfortunately, rather than a million pounds and a teddy bear, they have won a visit by the bailiffs to take away their furniture.

HPFA · 01/11/2018 11:17

the 'patriotic' leavers are the ones that really know what's going on...

Oh yes, I met one of these on Twitter. He's convinced that when the UK leaves the EU the EU will need to renegotiate all its FTAs. I asked him why, in that case, no-one seemed to be aware of this in the EU officialdom, no-one has mentioned this in the media, the trade experts who post on Twitter don't realise it, the countries who have FTAs don't seem aware of it....

No answer. Sometimes I find myself wishing that we really will have a crash out so these people have to face reality. But, of course, quite apart from inflicting unnecessary suffering, that won't happen because it will all be the fault of treacherous Remainers or the EU.

TristanDaCunha · 01/11/2018 14:17

I caught something on Radio 4's Today programme about sterling rising because the UK has secured a deal for financial services. The reporter said something about equivalence (I think?!) meaning the EU would be making the rules. Does anyone know what I'm going on about?

lalalonglegs · 01/11/2018 14:29

Think they're hoping that if they leave it late enough the eu will accept anything.

I think the government are hoping that if they leave things late enough, ^Parliament6 will accept anything...

Tristan Barnier has now rubbished reports of the financial sector deal as well as DExEU issuing a statement saying that it would all be done by the end of the month. twitter.com/MichelBarnier/status/1057971014229999616

I do wonder if the NCA investigation into the Leave.EU funding will mean that the whole thing will be put on hold. There is going to be enormous pressure to see what comes of the (pretty well substantiated) allegations. If the ECJ rules in the next few weeks that A50 is unilaterally revokable too, that could be a real game-changer.

Jason118 · 02/11/2018 16:56

Tristan
I caught that too. It's basically the EU's financial equivalent of Passporting for 3rd countries. It's nothing special for us, a complete non story, hence it also being buried on pge14 of the Times or FT I can't remember which.

WhollyFather · 02/11/2018 17:20

I cannot imagine a deal which will be acceptable to both the EU and the British people (not including the snowflakes who post on here claiming the end of the world is nigh) so it's very unlikely.

We do not need a deal and will be far better off just leaving, keeping the £39bn bribe, no Withdrawal Agreement (not necessary and will only work to our disadvantage) and move to trade on WTO terms. Our amended schedules for this (proposing splits in trade quotas which were originally EU28 into EU27 & UK) despite nonsense in the remainer media, are in negotiation and will be fine.

The EU is not strong enough to take on global financial markets. The world finance capitals are jointly London and New York. Frankfurt doesn't make the top 20 and Paris doesn't appear on the list at all.

The 'investigation' into Leave.UK - which wasn't even the official Leave campaign, Vote Leave was - is a transparent witch hunt with no merit. It was, in fact, the remain campaign which broke funding rules, not Leave. Even in the unlikely event of Banks being found to have committed some impropriety, it would not affect the referendum result and to think it could is grasping at straws. Why can't you people admit defeat - it's well over 2 years - and reconcile yourselves to leaving? Join us in the reality based community at your convenience.

Focus on this. Brexit is not and never was about money. It is about sovereignty, about the UK becoming a self-governing democracy again, not a province of a corrupt, anti-democratic German Empire, which is where we are currently headed.

Jason118 · 02/11/2018 17:37

How will the new agreements be 'fine' and does 'fine' mean better or worse than the ones we have now? On what do you base this insight, other than you want it to be?

Jason118 · 02/11/2018 17:39

Wholly,
I don't understand where you get your last paragraph from - none of its true, I'm a little worried for you.

RedneckStumpy · 02/11/2018 17:41

It will be either a crap deal or no deal. The EU is basically saying Would you rather be shot or stabbed?

bellinisurge · 02/11/2018 17:56

Hi @RedneckStumpy . I think it's more the UK government saying "shall we jump off the cliff or descend down the cliff path in high wind and high tide?".

RedneckStumpy · 02/11/2018 17:58

bellinisurge

.......whilst wearing inappropriate clothing and footwear Grin

teaandbiscuitsforme · 02/11/2018 18:00

The EU isn't saying anything - we've done this to ourselves. We knew the options from the outset but red lines have halted every option.

Wholly What a complete load of absolute nonsense. You haven't even mentioned NI. It's never been about sovereignty (which we always had); it's about making Brexiteers richer and using racism to get it through.

Staringcoat · 02/11/2018 18:11

Op - have a listen to THIS! BBC Radio 5's latest episode of their Brexitcast; a podcast with journalists Adam Fleming, Laura Kuenssberg, Katya Adler and Chris Mason. The latest episode "see you next Tuesday" outlines the latest positions. Basically, negotiations are still in the "tunnel", no new ideas from UK side, civil servants desperately trying to reorganise the same old paragraphs in to a different order. They were sceptical about the rumoured break through relating to financial services too. A depressing dog's Brexit indeed!

Staringcoat · 02/11/2018 18:23

Meant to say, the next "potentially" important dates are mentioned in the podcast too.

Peregrina · 02/11/2018 19:02

It's the weekend folks, so WhollyFather and RedneckStumpy's shifts have clocked on again.

McWilde · 02/11/2018 19:34

Wholly you forgot to mention the War and Dunkirk spirit.

prettybird · 02/11/2018 23:31

We know the Brexitters are getting rattled when whollyfather gets paid clocks on to mainsplain more nonsense Hmm

It's actually quite reassuring. Grin

Plus it's costing whoever funded the Leave campaign Wink
